Donaldson Turbo-Tek Cartridge Gas Turbine Cartridge Filter Range

Description

Ten cartridge media options for gas turbine inlet air

The Donaldson Turbo-Tek cartridge range is the pulse-cleanable and static cartridge filter family for gas turbine inlet houses. The selection guide rates every cartridge on three scales: efficiency (Er0 to Er5), watertightness (W0 to W5) and pulse recovery (S or P1 to P5), so a plant in the desert can look for a high P rating while one on the coast looks for W5.

Ten options are listed, from Er1 W5 P1 Duratek cellulose/synthetic media up to Er5 W5 P1 synthetic H20+ (H)EPA media. The guide covers ASHRAE 52.2 MERV 11 to MERV 16 and EN 779/EN 1822 F7 to E12 in the data sheet comparison.

How to choose by site

Donaldson links the ratings to environments: urban/industrial, arid and semi-arid with seasonal fog, arctic, desert arid with heavy wind and dust, and marine, coastal and tropical. For a desert site with pulse cleaning the guide points to the Er2 W1 P5 or Er3 W1 P5 synthetic media, which recover best after dust loading. For hot, humid coastal sites it points to W5 types such as Er2 W5 P5 DSW or Er5 W5 P1 H20+.

The guide works through a decision tree: whether pulse recovery matters, whether salt and corrosive contaminants make watertightness important, whether fouling is an immediate concern, whether water washes should be reduced and whether the plant is base-loaded.

  • Duratek: Rating Er1 W5 P1; ASHRAE 52.2 MERV 11; New dP inch wg at 1,630 cfm 0.72
  • DSW: Rating Er2 W5 P5; ASHRAE 52.2 MERV 13; New dP inch wg at 1,630 cfm 0.84
  • SSW: Rating Er2 W1 P5; ASHRAE 52.2 MERV 13; New dP inch wg at 1,630 cfm 0.71
  • SSW XP: Rating Er3 W1 P5; ASHRAE 52.2 MERV 15; New dP inch wg at 1,630 cfm 0.75
  • ECO Pulse: Rating Er5 W1 P4; ASHRAE 52.2 MERV 16; New dP inch wg at 1,630 cfm 1.15
  • H20+: Rating Er5 W5 P1; ASHRAE 52.2 MERV 16; New dP inch wg at 1,630 cfm 1.15

What the guide does not give

The document is a reference guide: it lists media and ratings, not cartridge part numbers or dimensions, and Donaldson asks the user to work through the selection with the manufacturer. Part number, flange or Quick-Lock yoke interface, and cartridge length depend on the inlet house, so provide the housing make and model with an enquiry.

About brand

Donaldson is the American filtration company founded in Minnesota in 1915. It started when Frank Donaldson Sr. built an air cleaner for a tractor engine that kept failing in dusty fields. It is now headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, and makes filters and filtration systems for engines, hydraulics, compressed air and gases, dust collection and process liquids.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Donaldson compressed air dryers and filters, gas filter housings, activated carbon adsorbers, hydraulic and fuel filtration and dust collectors, and supply them and their replacement elements in Oman and the GCC.

Milestones

  • 1915: Frank Donaldson Sr. builds an air cleaner for a tractor that kept failing in a dusty field; the family starts Donaldson Company in Minnesota.
  • 1917: Air cleaners are supplied for artillery tractors.
  • 1920s: Exhaust products are added after crop fires caused by engine sparks.
  • 1974: Donaldson acquires Torit, the dust collector business.
  • 2015: The company marks its 100th year.

Compressed air quality is set by ISO 8573-1 classes for particles, water and oil. A typical instrument air system uses a coarse filter and a fine coalescing filter before the dryer, an adsorption dryer for a low pressure dew point (for example -40 °C), and a dust filter after it. An activated carbon stage removes oil vapour where the air touches food or is breathed. Heatless dryers use some of the dry air to regenerate the desiccant, while heat-regenerated and zero-purge types save that air on larger systems.

Where Donaldson products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Donaldson filters and dryers are used for instrument and plant air in oil and gas, refining, power and desalination plants, for breathing air, in food and pharmaceutical production, on hydraulic systems and fuel storage, and in cement and bulk handling.

Ordering Donaldson products: what we need

Send the model and size from the nameplate. For dryers and filters, add the flow (m³/h or scfm), working pressure, inlet temperature, required dew point or ISO 8573-1 class, and the supply voltage. For replacement elements, send the element part number or the housing model.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do Er, W and P mean?
Er is efficiency from Er0 to Er5, W is watertightness from W0 to W5 and P is pulse recovery from P1 to P5, with S for filters that cannot be pulse-cleaned.
Which cartridge suits a coastal plant?
The guide recommends W5 types such as Er2 W5 P5 and Er5 W5 P1 for coastal or humid environments.
Which has the highest efficiency?
The synthetic H20+ cartridge, rated Er5 W5 P1, MERV 16 and E12.
How is watertightness tested?
With a 60 l/h water spray for eight hours; W5 requires 99.5 percent water resistance with no more than 1.5 inch wg pressure drop rise.
Does the guide list part numbers?
No. It is a selection guide; ordering needs the housing details.
