Bray McCannalok Series 40/41 High-Performance Butterfly Valve
Description
Double offset high-performance butterfly valve for process and utility service
The McCannalok series is Bray’s patented double offset high-performance butterfly valve, engineered for high temperature, high pressure, high cycle and critical service. The Series 40 (wafer) and Series 41 (lug) cover ASME Class 150 in sizes NPS 2 to 66, and the wider McCannalok family continues with the Series 42/43 and 4B in Class 300, the Series 44/45 in Class 600, and the double flanged Series 4A.
The valve is built around an energized resilient seat: a resilient energizer is totally encapsulated by the seat and isolated from the line medium, locked in the body recess by a full-faced seat retainer bolted outside the sealing area. Sealing is bidirectional and pressure assisted, with the full rating available in dead-end service on lug and double flanged bodies. Bray lists oil and gas related duties such as sour gas (NACE) and pressure swing adsorption, together with steam, seawater, chilled water, caustic, acids, hydrogen, oxygen, vacuum and dry chlorine.

Seat and stem design
The seat is self-adjusting for wear and temperature changes, and its replacement is simple: remove the seat retainer, rotate the disc to the closed position and place a new seat assembly into the body recess, without disturbing disc or stem. The Bray recommended specification asks for a seat that gives tight shutoff after one million cycles and is pressure assisted rather than pressure dependent.
The stem is blowout proof with a prevention ring located outside the pressure boundary, supported by top and bottom bearings with 316 stainless steel shells and TFE lining, and the packing can be adjusted without removing the actuator. An internal over-travel stop protects the seat. The firesafe option combines an Inconel metal seat with graphite packing and bidirectional sealing to API 607.
Choosing the right McCannalok series
Choose the 40/41 for Class 150 service, the 42/43 for Class 300 and the 44/45 for Class 600, and the 4A or 4B when a double flanged body is needed. Metal-seated and firesafe versions suit high-temperature and hydrocarbon duty where an elastomer-based seat is not acceptable. Please provide size, pressure class, temperature, medium, leakage class, fire-safe or fugitive emission requirement, face-to-face standard and actuator.
| Series | Class and body | Size |
|---|---|---|
| 40/41 (this page) | Class 150, wafer / lug | NPS 2-66 |
| 42/43 | Class 300, wafer / lug | NPS 2-54 |
| 44/45 | Class 600, wafer / lug | NPS 3-36 |
| 4A / 4B | Class 150 / 300, double flanged | NPS 2-54 / 3-42 |

About brand
Bray International is the Houston-based maker of butterfly valves, knife gate and slurry valves, actuators and valve controls. It was incorporated in Houston on 23 April 1986, founded by Craig C. Brown and Frank J. Raymond, and assembled its first butterfly valves in 1987. Among them were the Series 20/21, 30/31 and 35/36 resilient-seated valves that are still in its range.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Bray valves, actuators, positioners and switch boxes, and supply complete automated valve packages and spare parts to water, oil and gas and process plants in Oman and the GCC.

The butterfly valve type follows the duty. Resilient-seated valves seal on a rubber liner, which makes them economical and bubble-tight for water and utilities. High-performance valves use an offset disc and a PTFE or metal seat for higher pressures and temperatures. Triple-offset valves add a third geometric offset so the disc meets the seat without rubbing, which allows a metal-to-metal, zero-leakage seal in steam and hydrocarbon service.
Where Bray valves are used
In Oman and the GCC, Bray valves and actuators are used in water transmission and distribution, desalination and wastewater plants, district cooling and HVAC, petrochemical and chemical plants, power stations and mining and slurry lines.
Ordering Bray valves: what we need
Send the series, size (NPS or DN), end connection (wafer, lug or flanged), body, disc and seat materials, and the medium, pressure and temperature. For actuated valves, add the actuator type (double-acting or spring return), air or electric supply, and any positioner or switch box needed.
