Brand:

CMP C2K Ex eb Explosive Atmosphere Cable Gland for Armoured Cable

Description

A single-seal Ex eb gland for every armoured cable type

The CMP C2K is an internationally approved Ex eb explosive atmosphere cable gland for all types of armoured cables. It clamps the armour metal-to-metal with a reversible armour cone and the AnyWay universal clamping ring, seals the cable outer sheath with the CMP load retention seal and includes an integral protected deluge seal. The reversible cone lets one gland cover braid, tape, strip, pliable wire and single or aluminium wire armour.

The gland is for increased safety (Ex e) enclosures and dust-hazardous equipment rather than for flameproof Ex d entries, where a barrier gland such as the PX2K family is used. The datasheet gives a temperature range of -60 to +130 C, IP66, IP67 and IP68 and the superior EMC performance of the metal-to-metal armour clamp.

Selection and ordering

Choose the size from the overall cable diameter and the armour type: the grooved cone (X) range suits wire braid, steel tape and strip armour and, if outside the stepped cone range, SWA and AWA, while the stepped cone (W) range is for SWA and AWA. The ordering reference is the size code followed by C2K and 1RA, for example 20C2K1RA5 for nickel plated brass M20 or 25C2K1RA432 for stainless steel 3/4 in NPT. Material suffixes added to the ordering reference: brass (no suffix), nickel plated brass 5, 316 stainless steel 4, copper-free aluminium 1; NPT options add digits to the material suffix (for example 1/2 in = 31, 3/4 in = 32, 1 in = 33).

Because the C2K is not a barrier gland, check the equipment certificate: it is intended for Ex eb and dust (Ex ta) entries and not for Ex d direct entry. For flameproof entries or cables with permeable fillers use the PX2K family.

Installation notes

The reversible armour cone speeds installation, and the unique OSTG feature prevents over-tightening of the outer seal. The datasheet states that the mechanical and electrical classifications and the IP/NEMA ratings apply when CMP installation accessories are used. The recommended shroud size by gland size is printed in the table.

About brand

CMP Products makes cable glands and cable cleats, and little else. Founded in 1957 and based in Cramlington, United Kingdom, the company is a name that appears on hazardous-area cable schedules for oil, gas and power projects. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies CMP cable glands for explosive atmospheres to contractors in Oman, including the E1FW and the Triton T3CDS, among other glands and cable cleats listed on this page.

CMP cable glands listed here

The T3CDS Triton is a gland for armored cables with a compensating displacement seal, a design that sets the inner seal correctly across the cable diameter range, and an integral deluge seal. CMP lists it as Ex db, Ex eb, Ex nR and Ex ta, with IP66, IP67 and IP68 ratings. The E1FW is the explosive atmosphere gland for steel wire armored (SWA) and aluminum wire armored (AWA) cable.

Ordering CMP glands: what we need

A gland is sized to the cable, so send the cable type and three dimensions: inner bedding diameter, outer sheath diameter and armor wire size. Add the entry thread and size (metric or NPT), the gland material (brass, nickel-plated brass or stainless steel) and accessories such as locknut, earth tag, sealing washer and shroud. GCC project specifications usually name the certificate required.
