DEUTZ TCD 16.0 V8 Diesel Engine
Overview
The DEUTZ TCD 16.0 is a 90 degree V8 diesel from DEUTZ AG that packs 15.9 litres of displacement into a compact, installation-friendly package. It is rated between 350 and 520 kW according to ISO 14396 and delivers a maximum torque of 2890 Nm at 1400 rpm, which places it among the strongest engines that DEUTZ builds for mobile and industrial machinery. Because the V configuration is shorter than a six-cylinder engine of similar output, designers of crushers, large loaders and other heavy equipment can gain engine bay space without giving up power.
Seven Star LLC supplies the DEUTZ TCD 16.0 to OEMs, equipment rental companies and industrial maintenance teams in Oman and across the GCC. Our Muscat office provides supply coordination and engineering support, and we help customers read the manufacturer documentation so that the engine, the exhaust module and the accessories on an order match the machine that will carry them.
How the DEUTZ TCD 16.0 Works
This engine is a water-cooled eight-cylinder diesel with turbocharging and charge air cooling. Fuel is supplied by a powerful common rail injection system, and the electronic engine control, abbreviated EMR by DEUTZ, is linked to the drive management of the machine. The control unit reads engine and machine data and adjusts injection to maintain output while holding fuel consumption low. DEUTZ states that the engine and its exhaust aftertreatment are optimised together so that the total operating cost, not only the engine efficiency, is as low as possible.
For exhaust treatment the manufacturer describes a modular system built from components of its DVERT kit. Under the US Tier 4 configuration the engine uses two SCR modules as standard, while the EU Stage V configuration uses two DPF/SCR modules, with the particulate filter integrated into the exhaust system to meet the stricter particle limit. Because SCR reduces nitrogen oxides in the exhaust stream, DEUTZ explains that the cooling package does not have to be enlarged compared with older Tier 3 engines.
Mechanical Design and Installation
According to the datasheet the DEUTZ TCD 16.0 has a bore of 132 mm, a stroke of 145 mm and a displacement of 15.874 litres. The maximum nominal speed is 2100 rpm, the minimum idling speed is 1000 rpm and the engine weighs 1260 kg according to DIN 70020 Part 7A. The overall dimensions in the datasheet are 1359 mm for A, 948 mm for B and 1172 mm for C, and the SCR modules are shown with a diameter of 385 mm and a length of 1547 mm.
A flat, extremely compact version of the DEUTZ TCD 16.0 is also available for installations with limited height. Power take-off is available at 100 percent of engine output at both the flywheel and the front end, and up to three additional PTO drives can be fitted with a combined torque of up to 520 Nm for hydraulic pumps and other auxiliary equipment. The engine also offers a ready-to-install modular power pack and consistent installation dimensions, which allow an existing machine to move to the next emission stage without a redesign.
Key Features
The manufacturer lists the following capabilities for the DEUTZ TCD 16.0 engine.
- Output range of 350 to 520 kW at 2100 rpm, with a maximum torque of 2890 Nm at 1400 rpm.
- Eight-cylinder 90 degree V layout with a displacement of 15.9 litres.
- Common rail injection and electronic engine control linked to the drive management of the machine.
- Certified for EU Stage V, US Tier 4 final and China Non-Road 4, with HVO renewable diesel certification.
- Modular exhaust aftertreatment based on DVERT components for flexible machine integration.
- Cold starting performance that DEUTZ describes as the best, even under extreme conditions.
- Flat compact version for very low installation heights.
- Modular, compact power pack that is ready for installation.
Industrial Applications
An engine of this class is usually chosen for equipment that has to deliver high continuous output in a limited space. In Oman the DEUTZ TCD 16.0 is relevant to mobile crushing and screening plants working quarries near Sohar and Salalah, large wheel loaders and dump trucks used on infrastructure projects, deep foundation drilling rigs and big compressor or pump skids that support oil and gas field work. High torque at only 1400 rpm lets those machines operate with the engine in its efficient range, which lowers fuel consumption and reduces wear on cooling fans and belts in extreme summer heat. For customers comparing diesel engine options, the Perkins 2506C-E15TAG2 diesel engine is another heavy-duty unit that we support.
Seven Star LLC supplies the DEUTZ TCD 16.0 together with controllers and generating-set equipment so that engineering teams can source drive and control hardware from one regional supplier. Examples from our catalogue include the Cummins 312/315 kVA diesel generator set and the DSE7320 auto mains failure generator controller. Suitability for a specific machine or duty cycle must always be checked against the DEUTZ technical documentation.
Specification Checklist Before You Order
The DEUTZ TCD 16.0 is offered with a broad range of options, so a short checklist avoids delays. Decide first which emission standard applies, because that determines whether the exhaust system uses two SCR modules or two DPF/SCR modules. Then confirm the rated power and speed at which it is needed, the PTO requirements, the cooling arrangement and whether the flat version is required. Finally, check that the machine can carry the DEUTZ TCD 16.0 weight of 1260 kg and the length of the aftertreatment modules. Stating these points in the first enquiry lets our engineers return a precise answer instead of a request for more data, which is especially useful when the engine is one component of a larger tender package.
