Brand:

DEUTZ TCD 6.1 L6 Diesel Engine

Description

Overview

The DEUTZ TCD 6.1 is the six-cylinder sister of the TCD 4.1 and covers the power class where many mid-size machines operate: 105 to 180 kW with 1000 Nm of torque at just 1450 rpm. Wheel loaders, larger compressors, mobile cranes, harvesters and heavy pumping equipment use this class of engine because it delivers high continuous output without the weight and footprint of a heavy-duty engine. DEUTZ Corporation positions the series alongside the 4.1 as a state-of-the-art development of the established 2012 engine generation.

Seven Star LLC supplies the DEUTZ TCD 6.1 to customers in Oman and the GCC, providing engineering support in Muscat. We share the DEUTZ datasheet with every quotation so engineering and purchasing teams evaluate the same ratings, dimensions and emission data.

Working Principle

Like its four-cylinder sibling, the DEUTZ TCD 6.1 is a water-cooled inline diesel with turbocharging, intercooling and cooled external exhaust gas recirculation. Six cylinders firing in sequence produce smoother torque delivery and lower vibration than a four-cylinder layout, which reduces stress on couplings, pumps and generator alternators. The DEUTZ Common Rail (DCR) system injects fuel at high pressure, with timing and quantity managed by the EMR 4 controller.

After combustion, exhaust gas passes through DEUTZ DVERT aftertreatment components chosen for the target emission stage. DEUTZ states that the system regenerates without downtime and that the engine and aftertreatment are optimised as one system to minimise fuel and total running costs. For operators, this means fewer interruptions and predictable consumption on long duty cycles.

Engineering Design of the DEUTZ TCD 6.1

The engine uses the same 101 mm bore and 126 mm stroke as the TCD 4.1, giving 6.057 litres in total. According to the DEUTZ AG datasheet, it weighs 620 kg and measures 1080 mm in length, 724 mm in width and 948 mm in height. Maximum nominal speed is 2300 rpm and minimum idle is 600 rpm, which helps reduce fuel use when a machine waits between work cycles.

Consistent installation and connection dimensions make it easier for OEMs to carry a machine design forward to newer emission stages. The DEUTZ TCD 6.1 provides 100% power take-off at flywheel and front end, plus up to three auxiliary PTO drives with a total torque of up to 315 Nm, so hydraulic, fan and compressor drives can be mounted directly on the engine.

The compact dimensions and customer-friendly accessories, which DEUTZ says reduce installation costs, also make this engine a common repower candidate for older machines whose original engines are no longer economical to rebuild or no longer meet site emission rules.

Key Features

Key documented features of the DEUTZ TCD 6.1 include the following.

  • Power output of 105 to 180 kW at 2100–2300 rpm according to ISO 14396.
  • Maximum torque of 1000 Nm at 1450 rpm for strong low-speed pulling power.
  • Six-cylinder inline layout with 6.057 litres displacement for smooth running.
  • DEUTZ Common Rail injection and EMR 4 electronic engine control.
  • Modular DVERT aftertreatment that regenerates without downtime.
  • EU Stage V, US Tier 4 and CN IV compliance, and listed as HVO ready.
  • Up to three auxiliary PTO drives with a total of up to 315 Nm.
  • Available as a modular power pack ready for installation.

Industrial Applications

For operators in Oman, the DEUTZ TCD 6.1 suits large portable compressors used for pigging and pressure testing on oil and gas pipelines, dewatering pumps on construction sites, and wheel loaders working in quarries around Sohar and Ibri. The 1000 Nm torque peak at 1450 rpm lets equipment carry heavy loads at moderate engine speed, which helps manage heat in summer temperatures. Where an engine drives a generator, it is typically paired with a controller such as the DSE7320 auto mains failure generator controller.

Seven Star LLC supplies the DEUTZ TCD 6.1 to OEM workshops and plant operators across the GCC. Projects that need more power than the 6.1 can draw on our wider generating portfolio, from packaged units like the Cummins 312/315 kVA diesel generator set to medium-speed engines such as the Wartsila 20 generating set engine, all supported from Muscat.

Fuel, Emissions and Service Planning

DEUTZ lists the DEUTZ TCD 6.1 as HVO ready, so operators can switch to hydrotreated vegetable oil, a renewable paraffinic diesel, to reduce lifecycle CO2 without engine changes. This is increasingly relevant for contractors working for national oil companies and utilities that now track equipment emissions in their sustainability reporting.

From a maintenance perspective, the engine combines long oil change intervals with easy fluid changes, which DEUTZ says lowers running costs and increases machine availability. Its aftertreatment regenerates without downtime, so filter management does not interrupt production. Because the TCD 6.1 shares bore, stroke and many design principles with the four-cylinder TCD 4.1, workshops that already service one engine can transfer much of their training and tooling to the other. For applications with special aftertreatment ratings, DEUTZ recommends consulting its application engineering, and Seven Star LLC can include that request in your enquiry for the DEUTZ TCD 6.1.

About brand
DEUTZ has built engines in Cologne since 1864, and its compact liquid-cooled diesels sit under the canopy of a great many compressors, pumps, generator sets and construction machines. Seven Star LLC supplies DEUTZ engines and engine parts to equipment owners and packagers in Oman. The listing here follows the current TCD diesel family from the 2.2 liter three-cylinder to the 18 liter six-cylinder, plus the G 2.9 gas engine.

DEUTZ engine families listed here

DEUTZ engine names can be read directly. In TCD 6.1 L6, TCD stands for a turbocharged diesel with charge air cooling, 6.1 is the displacement in liters and L6 means six cylinders in line. A V marks a vee engine, as in TCD 12.0 V6 and TCD 16.0 V8. The engines listed are:
  • Compact engines: TCD 2.2 L3, TCD 2.9 L4, TCD 3.6 L4
  • Mid-range engines: TCD 4.1 L4, TCD 6.1 L6, TCD 7.8 L6
  • Large engines: TCD 12.0 V6, TCD 16.0 V8, TCD 18.0 L6
  • G 2.9 L4 for LPG and gasoline
Electronic parts are listed as well, such as the CMPS power supply and CAN bus module 1247 0960KZ.

Where DEUTZ engines are used

Typical DEUTZ applications are generator sets, mobile air compressors, pump sets, material handling and construction equipment, agricultural machines and auxiliary drives. In the oil and gas fields of the GCC they are common in rental power, well service units and dewatering pumps, where a machine builder has selected the engine and the owner later needs a like-for-like unit or parts.

Ordering DEUTZ engines and parts: what we need

The same displacement is built in many variants, so the engine type alone is not enough. Send a photo of the engine nameplate with the engine type and engine serial number. For a new engine add the rated power and speed, the emission stage required for your site, the application (genset at fixed speed or variable-speed drive), cooling arrangement and flywheel housing. For parts, give the DEUTZ part number where you have it. We check the data against DEUTZ documentation and provide the manufacturer's datasheet on request.
