VERDERAIR PURE VA-P40 Chemical Diaphragm Pump

Description

Overview

The VERDERAIR VA-P40 is a 1 1/2 inch air-operated double diaphragm pump from the Verderair PURE range, designed for heavy-duty operation with harsh chemicals and severe process conditions. Verder lists power stations, acids, solvents, petrochemical facilities and photovoltaic panel manufacturing among its typical uses. The pump body is machined from a solid block of virgin-grade UHMW polyethylene or PTFE, so there are no welds and no metal in the wetted path or on the outside of the pump. The VERDERAIR VA-P40 delivers up to 370 l/min at a maximum operating pressure of 7 bar and passes solids up to 9 mm.

Seven Star LLC supplies the VERDERAIR VA-P40 to chemical plants, power and desalination stations, refineries and water treatment facilities in Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. Our engineers help customers in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and Salalah choose between PE and PTFE housings, conductive versions for hazardous areas, and the right valve and diaphragm combination for each acid, alkali or solvent.

Operating Principle

Like every AODD pump, the VERDERAIR VA-P40 uses two diaphragms connected by a shaft. Compressed air alternately pressurises the back of each diaphragm, so one chamber discharges liquid through its outlet check valve while the opposite chamber draws liquid in through its inlet check valve. The air valve reverses the cycle at the end of every stroke, giving a positive displacement flow that is controlled simply by adjusting air pressure and volume. In the PURE range this air valve is 100% oil and grease free, so it is suited to clean processes and leaves no lubricant in the exhaust.

The principle gives the VERDERAIR VA-P40 several advantages in chemical service. There is no rotating shaft seal to leak aggressive media, the pump can run dry and can stall against a closed valve without damage, and without an electric motor it is safe in zones where flammable solvents are handled. The datasheet gives a dry suction lift of 4 m with ball valves (5 m with the cylinder valve option) and a wet suction lift of 9.5 m, which allows the pump to draw from below-ground tanks and drums.

Engineering Design of the VERDERAIR VA-P40

The main differentiator of the PURE series is construction. Instead of injection moulding or welding plastic parts, Verder machines the housing and centre section of the VERDERAIR VA-P40 from one solid block. Machined housings have no weld lines or moulding stress points, which gives better resistance to mechanical forces, pressure cycling and temperature changes than welded designs. Housing and centre section options are EE (UHMW PE), GG (conductive UHMW PE), TT (PTFE) and UU (conductive PTFE). The PE versions are rated to 70°C and weigh about 39 kg (EE) or 36 kg (GG), while the PTFE versions are rated to 120°C and weigh about 87 kg (TT) or 82 kg (UU).

Valve balls are EPDM, PTFE or a cylinder valve, diaphragms are EPDM or PTFE overmolded, and fluid connections are 1 1/2 inch NPT female, flanged DIN DN40, flanged ANSI 1 1/2 inch or flanged JIS 1 1/2 inch, with an R 1/2 inch air inlet. Options include remote operation, pulsation dampener preparation, vertical suction, a barrier system with sensors, leak detection, stroke sensor, manual or pneumatic draining and ANSI preparation. The VERDERAIR VA-P40 carries ATEX marking II 2GD c IIB Tx.

Key Features

The VERDERAIR VA-P40 is built for chemical duties where metal pumps corrode and welded plastic pumps crack. Its key features are:

  • Housing machined from a solid block of virgin UHMW PE or PTFE, with no welds and no metal wetted or external parts.
  • Flow up to 370 l/min and maximum operating pressure of 7 bar with 1 1/2 inch or DN40 connections.
  • PTFE versions rated to 120°C for hot acids and solvents; PE versions rated to 70°C.
  • 100% oil and grease free air valve, suitable for clean and high-purity processes.
  • Conductive PE and PTFE versions for ATEX hazardous areas (II 2GD c IIB Tx).
  • Passes solids up to 9 mm, with wet suction lift up to 9.5 m.
  • Can run dry and stall safely against a closed valve, with no rotating seal to leak.
  • Options for leak detection, barrier system, stroke sensing and draining to support safe maintenance.

Industrial Applications

The VERDERAIR VA-P40 is used for unloading and transferring sulphuric, hydrochloric, nitric and hydrofluoric acids, caustic soda, sodium hypochlorite, ferric chloride and solvents. Power stations use the VERDERAIR VA-P40 in water treatment and demineralisation plants, petrochemical facilities use them for chemical additive transfer, and electronics and solar panel manufacturers rely on the metal-free, oil-free construction to protect product purity. Because the pump is portable and air driven, it is also used for emptying IBCs and storage tanks during maintenance.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the VERDERAIR VA-P40 to desalination and RO plants, power stations, refineries and chemical storage terminals in Sohar, Duqm and Salalah. For metallic transfer duties with fuels and oils, the Verder VA25 air-operated double diaphragm pump is often the more economical choice, while low-flow chemical dosing usually calls for a Grundfos DME digital dosing pump or a Verderflex Rapide peristaltic hose pump. Our Muscat team can help compare the options.

About brand
Verder has made industrial pumps since 1959, with its base in Vleuten, Netherlands. Buyers usually meet the pumps under family names: Verderflex for peristaltic pumps and Verderair for air-operated diaphragm pumps. Seven Star LLC lists Verder pumps from both families and supplies them, with wear parts such as hoses and diaphragms, to process plants in Oman.

Verderflex and Verderair pumps listed here

The Verderflex Dura 35 is a peristaltic hose pump, and the Verderflex Rapide is a low-pressure peristaltic tube pump from the same family. The Verder VA25 is a Verderair air-operated double diaphragm pump. The VA25 is offered in metallic and non-metallic versions.

Where Verder pumps are used

Hose pumps such as the Dura handle dosing, metering and sampling duties, and the liquid touches only the hose. Diaphragm pumps such as the VA25 are used for liquid transfer and for emptying containers.

Ordering Verder pumps and parts: what we need

Send the pump type code and serial number from the nameplate. For a Verderflex hose, state the pump size and the hose material. For a Verderair pump, state the body, diaphragm, ball and seat materials. For a new pump, give the liquid, flow, pressure and temperature. We quote for buyers across the GCC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the VERDERAIR VA-P40 different from moulded plastic diaphragm pumps?
The VERDERAIR VA-P40 housing is machined from a solid block of virgin UHMW PE or PTFE rather than moulded or welded. This removes weld lines and stress points, so the pump resists pressure cycling, mechanical loads and temperature changes better in aggressive chemical service.
What flow, pressure and temperature does the VA-P40 handle?
The VA-P40 delivers up to 370 l/min at a maximum operating pressure of 7 bar. PE versions are rated to 70 degrees C and PTFE versions to 120 degrees C.
Which chemicals can the VA-P40 pump?
With PTFE housing and PTFE diaphragms it handles strong acids such as sulphuric, hydrochloric, nitric and hydrofluoric acid, alkalis, hypochlorite and most solvents. The PE version is an economical choice for many acids and alkalis at lower temperatures; compatibility should be confirmed for each fluid.
Can the VA-P40 be used in hazardous areas?
Yes. Conductive PE (GG) and conductive PTFE (UU) versions are available, and the pump carries ATEX marking II 2GD c IIB Tx. Being air driven, it has no electric motor near the fluid.
Does Seven Star LLC supply the VERDERAIR VA-P40 in the GCC?
Yes. Seven Star LLC supplies the VERDERAIR VA-P40 and spare diaphragm and valve kits in Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat for material selection.
