Raychem Elexant 3500i-C-W-A Electronic Thermostat, Wall Mount

Description

3500i-C-W-A is the communicating variant of the Raychem Elexant 3500i electronic thermostat in the wall-mount kit, part number 2000002454. It is a compact power-connection-and-thermostat unit for heat tracing, rated 32 A and 277 Vac, with RS-485 Modbus and Bluetooth configuration.

A thermostat that doubles as the power connection and talks to the DCS

The 3500i is a family built on one hardware platform with five electronic modules: Standard (-ST), Alarm (-AR), Communicating (-C), Current Sensing (-I) and Ground Fault Detecting (-GF). The suffix -W-A in the code means the wall-mount enclosure kit, and -P-A would be the pipe-mount kit.

The communicating module has one temperature input, an alarm relay, RS-485 Modbus RTU and Bluetooth BLE 5.1 (encrypted, password protected) for configuration with the Elexant Connect app, which has a Find Me feature to locate a unit. It performs an auto-test every 24 hours and can be programmed as a temperature limiter.

Features stated in the datasheet

  • Quick-connect lever terminals take power and one or two heating cables on one unit, up to 32 A and 277 Vac.
  • Hybrid switching relay (SSR plus EMR) rated to 250,000 power cycles.
  • Operating ambient -55 to +60 C; Type 4X, IP66 enclosure.
  • Modular design: electronic modules can be replaced without changing the enclosure.

Choosing among 3500i variants and kits

Variants differ by function: -ST standard (1 sensor, local light), -AR alarm relay, -C communicating (this code), -I current sensing and -GF ground fault detecting (both with 2 sensors). Pipe-mount kits (-P-A) include a pipe stand for pipes up to 205 C, and wall-mount kits (-W-A) can use bracket MBRP-B for hotter lines.

Accessories printed in the datasheet are MONI-PT100-260/2, /5 and /10 RTDs for pipe mount, RTD4AL for wall mount and replacement modules such as 3500i-C (2000002657).

Installation notes

The installation instructions say the module ships loose in the enclosure so conduit hubs and wiring can be completed first; the module is secured by two 5 mm hex screws at 3 Nm. Above 45 C ambient use cable and conduit hubs rated 90 C or higher, copper conductors only, and keep RTD, communications and alarm wiring in a separate conduit hub from power wiring.

The RTD output is non-incendive for Class I Div. 2 when installed to the control drawing, so confirm area classification and entity parameters before wiring.

Where it is used

General engineering note: this thermostat suits many small circuits such as instrument lines, sample lines, tank drains and valve tracing where a full controller would be oversized, and the communicating variant adds Modbus reporting. Its -55 to +60 C ambient rating and IP66 enclosure are relevant to outdoor Gulf service, but sun exposure should be checked.

Bluetooth commissioning means technicians can set up units from the ground with a phone or tablet instead of opening each enclosure.

Information to send with an RFQ for the Raychem Elexant 3500i-C-W-A Electronic Thermostat

A heat-tracing controller is selected around the circuits it will manage, not only by its own data sheet. When you request a quotation for the Raychem Elexant 3500i-C-W-A Electronic Thermostat, tell us how many circuits it must control, the cable type and load current on each circuit, and whether control is by ambient or line sensing. List the sensor type you intend to use and the cable length back to the panel.

  • Supply voltage and the switching device required, mechanical relay or solid-state.
  • Alarm needs: low and high temperature, ground fault and loss of power.
  • Communication to the plant system, if any, and the protocol expected.
  • Installation location: control room panel, field mounted or hazardous area.

Sharing the existing heat-tracing design, or the line list it was based on, lets the controller set-up be checked before delivery and shortens commissioning on site.

About brand

Raychem is a brand of electric heat-tracing products. In 1972 Raychem patented self-regulating heating cable, whose output adjusts along its length to the surrounding temperature. The heat-tracing business passed from Raychem Corporation through Tyco, Pentair and nVent, and since January 2025 Raychem has been a brand of Chemelex, an independent company owned by Brookfield.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Raychem heating cables and controllers with the official datasheet attached to each product page, for oil and gas, petrochemical and building projects in Oman and the GCC.
