KOBOLD NMB Magnetostrictive Level Transmitter, Expert Line
Description
Magnetostrictive level measurement with 0.1 mm resolution for clean liquids
The KOBOLD NMB Expert Line is a magnetostrictive level transmitter for clean liquids where accuracy matters, including fuels, solvents and alcohol derivatives, and the datasheet names custody transfer type measurement as a suitable use. A float with a magnetic disc moves along a guide tube that holds a magnetostrictive wire. An electronic pulse travels along the wire, a torsion wave is created where it meets the float magnet, and the 4 to 20 mA output is proportional to the time between excitation and detection.
Rigid and flexible probes, a plastic-coated version for chemicals and a mini version are offered. The unit supports a graphic NRM-300P display, a 99-point linearisation table for volume measurement and interface measurement, and it can also be fitted to a KOBOLD NBK bypass indicator as a supplementary transmitter.

Versions and floats
| Model | Design |
|---|---|
| NMB-T / NMB-B | Transmitter, rigid probe; B adds the display |
| NMB-TF / NMB-BF | Flexible probe, up to 15 m |
| NMB-E / NMB-G | PFA-coated probe for chemicals (not Ex); G adds the display |
| NMB-M / NMB-C | Mini transmitter (not Ex); C adds the display |
The float must be chosen for the liquid density. The standard stainless float is for liquids from 0.55 kg/dm³; the Ø124 mm ball float (1.4401, 25 bar) is for 0.4 kg/dm³ and above; the Ø54 mm titanium float is for 0.55 kg/dm³; and the Ø50 x 100 mm titanium float is for 0.45 kg/dm³. For the PFA-coated models the PVDF float needs 0.7 kg/dm³ and the PP float 0.4 kg/dm³. Float option 0 means no float, which is for assembly with an NBK bypass.
Ordering and Ex versions
The order example is NMB-T RR25 A 05 1 S: model, probe type and connection, housing, probe length, electrical output and resolution, and float. The output code selects 4 to 20 mA or HART, 0.1 mm or 1 mm resolution, and none, Ex ia, Ex d or Ex d + Ex ia. Probe length for the rigid probe goes up to 4.5 m, and for the flexible probe up to 15 m.
Confirm before ordering: liquid density and temperature for the float, tank opening against the float diameter, the Ex zone and gas group (the datasheet lists IIB), and whether the accuracy data apply, because they are only valid at the factory setting and not for a bypass float, where 5 mm is given for a factory-calibrated float for NBK.

About brand
KOBOLD Messring GmbH is a German instrumentation manufacturer based in Hofheim am Taunus, founded in 1980 by Klaus J. Kobold. It develops and manufactures instruments for monitoring, measuring and regulating flow, pressure, level and temperature, and the international KOBOLD group of companies serves virtually all sectors of industry.
KOBOLD flow and level instruments
The KOBOLD range covers Coriolis, thermal mass, magnetic inductive, turbine, oval gear, oscillation and variable area flow meters and flow switches, together with guided wave radar, 80 GHz radar, magnetostrictive, tuning fork and bypass level instruments. Many models carry ATEX or IECEx approvals, and several offer HART, Modbus or IO-Link communication.
Requesting KOBOLD instruments from Seven Star LLC
Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists selected KOBOLD flow and level instruments for oil and gas, water, power and process plants in Oman and the GCC. Send the model code, measuring range, process connection and approvals needed, and Seven Star LLC will prepare a quotation from the KOBOLD datasheet.
