Overview

Measurement Principle

The R-7540 ampoules use the Rhodazine D™ colorimetric method, the chemistry behind ASTM D5543 for low-level dissolved oxygen in water. In its reduced form the Rhodazine D reagent is essentially colorless; when it reacts with dissolved oxygen it is oxidized to an intensely colored pink species, and the depth of the pink color is proportional to the amount of oxygen present. The C-7540 comparator carries a series of pink color standards covering 0 to 40 ppb dissolved oxygen, with steps at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40 ppb, so the analyst simply matches the ampoule to the nearest standard.

Each ampoule is sealed under vacuum; when its tip is snapped off beneath the surface of a flowing sample, the vacuum draws the water directly into the ampoule and the reagent at the same moment.
