DEIF SGC 120 Mk II Single Genset Controller

Description

Compact controller for single gensets and engine drives

The DEIF SGC 120 Mk II is a small controller with the functions needed to protect and control a genset, a genset breaker and a mains breaker. It monitors engine safety parameters such as coolant temperature and oil pressure, measures generator and mains voltage and frequency, and shows values and alarms on a graphical LCD with Stop, Start and Auto keys. DEIF lists island operation, automatic mains failure (AMF), remote start and stop, auto exercise and engine drive as the modes of operation.

Configuration is done in the free Smart Connect Mk II software over USB. It allows parameter changes, data logging, custom sensor curves and the M-Logic logic tool, which builds functions from selectable input events and output events, with an analogue comparator for custom alarms. Any SGC controller can also act as a remote display for another SGC unit over CAN (J1939) using the RDC 100 software.

Protections and functions

Generator protections include two stages each of under and over voltage and frequency, unbalanced load, over-current (50TD), overload (32F), low load, reverse power and phase reversal. Engine protections include under and over speed, battery monitoring, charging alternator, pre-heat, coolant temperature, lube oil pressure, fuel level, fuel theft detection and ECU communication failure. Mains protections cover voltage, frequency and phase reversal. Mains functions include mains support (voltage and frequency), mains monitoring and an energy counter.

The genset functions include start and stop sequences, counters for running hours, starts, energy and maintenance, idle speed control, coolant temperature control and automatic fuel transfer.

Choosing the SGC model

Model Supply range Digital inputs Analogue inputs Dimensions (L x H x D)
SGC 120 Mk II (this page) 8 to 28 V DC 5 3 resistive + 1 V/mA 139.0 x 114.0 x 38.3 mm
SGC 420 Mk II 8 to 32 V DC 9 5 resistive + 2 V/mA 233.0 x 173.0 x 38.5 mm

Use the SGC 120 Mk II for small sets with simple I/O; use the SGC 420 Mk II when a larger display with breaker keys, earth-leakage current monitoring or site battery and shelter monitoring is required. Confirm the engine ECU protocol, the number of sensors and the intended mode before ordering.

About brand

DEIF is a Danish, family-owned and independent manufacturer of control and protection devices for power generation, founded in a Copenhagen backyard in 1933 and now based in Skive. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes DEIF AGC, SGC and CGC genset controllers for standby plants, paralleling systems and engine-driven sets.

DEIF genset and power management controllers

DEIF describes itself as a supplier of power control solutions for decentralised power generation on land and at sea. Its genset controllers range from the compact SGC and CGC units to the AGC 150 and AGC-4 Mk II controllers, which add synchronisation and power management for plants with many gensets. DEIF data sheets state the supply range, I/O, protections and approvals of each controller.

Ordering DEIF controllers

Name the exact model and variant, the software package or option letters where they apply, the quantity and the engine make and ECU protocol. DEIF configures several controllers by variant and option, so the data sheet on each page should be checked against the project before a quotation is issued.
