Brand: STAMFORD
STAMFORD S0 Low Voltage Alternator 7.5-30 kVA
Description
A compact alternator for small diesel and gas gensets
The STAMFORD S0 is the smallest alternator in the STAMFORD S-Range and covers 7.5 to 30 kVA at 50 Hz (9 to 36 kVA at 60 Hz). It is a four-pole, wire-wound, brushless machine with a single bearing, built for the compact gen-sets that sit under telecom shelters, site offices, small pumping stations and rental fleets. The brochure lists standby power, telecommunications, construction, combined heat and power, critical protection and UPS, and continuous power as the intended duties, on diesel or gas engines.
Two frame lengths make up the range. S0L1 is the shorter core (7.5 to 15 kVA three-phase) and S0L2 the longer one (17.5 to 30 kVA). Voltage is regulated by the AS540 analogue AVR with two-phase sensing, and excitation is self-exciting as standard. The design target stated by STAMFORD is a minimum of 20,000 hours of service life, backed by 9,000 hours of highly accelerated life testing on the components.

Choosing between S0 and the rest of the S-Range
Pick the model by continuous kVA at your site voltage, then check the standby (150/40) and 163/27 columns in the brochure if the set is rated for emergency duty only. If the load includes motors that start direct on line, ask for the auxiliary winding version of the larger cores, which the brochure lists for improved motor starting. For ratings above 30 kVA the next frame is the S1.

Fitting and mounting notes
The adaptor and feet are described as easily accessible, so the same set base can take another brand of alternator without re-engineering, and the machine converts between 50 Hz and 60 Hz. Anti-condensation heaters, a diode failure detector and a remote voltage trimmer are listed as accessories. Check the SAE adaptor against the engine flywheel housing before ordering.

About brand
STAMFORD, branded STAMFORD | AvK, is the alternator maker of Cummins Generator Technologies, building brushless AC alternators and automatic voltage regulators from 7.5 to 11,200 kVA. Its heritage runs back to 1904, when the Cutting Brothers started an electrical engineering business in Stamford, England. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, sources these alternators and regulators for generator builders and plant owners in Oman and the GCC.
Alternators and AVRs listed here
The pages cover the S-Range alternators S0, S1, S4, S5, S6, S7K and S9LV, the UC22 and UC27 frames, and the AS480, MX321, MX341, MX342, SX460 and DM110 voltage regulators. Each page carries the ratings and specification from the maker brochure, datasheet or owner manual, including options as printed.
Where these alternators are used
The maker names data centres, marine, telecoms, standby and critical protection, combined heat and power, rail and prime power as typical applications, on diesel and gas engines. In the Gulf these are the same standby and prime-power sets used on camps, plants and pumping stations.
Ordering parts and alternators: what we need
For an alternator, send the model, serial number, winding number, kVA, voltage and frequency from the nameplate. For a regulator, send the code printed on the existing board and the alternator model, because the right replacement depends on the excitation system.
