DEIF AGC 200 Automatic Genset Controller

Description

A genset controller that scales from one set to a 32-genset plant

The DEIF AGC 200 is the Automatic Genset Controller of DEIF’s Multi-line 2 range: a compact all-in-one unit with the measuring circuits, protections and control functions needed for a generator. It runs as a single controller for one genset or in a CAN-linked power management system for synchronising projects, islanded or paralleled to the mains. Variants with power management can handle up to 32 generators with generator breakers, 32 mains feeders with mains and tie breakers and 8 bus tie breakers, and CANshare load sharing is shown for up to 128 generators.

Plant modes and protections

The plant modes are island, automatic mains failure (AMF), fixed power, peak shaving, load takeover and mains power export, and all can be combined with AMF. Which modes a unit offers depends on the variant: the 212 and 222 are island units, the 213, 233 and 243 add mains-side modes, and the 244, 245 and 246 act as bus tie, mains and mains-with-tie controllers in a power management plant. Protections include reverse power, short circuit, over-current, over and under voltage and frequency, unbalance, overload, load shedding and breaker failure alarms with ANSI numbers listed in the data sheet. The emulation tool lets the application be tested with only a DC supply and CAN bus.

Options and ordering

Options are software or hardware: A loss-of-mains package (vector jump and df/dt), C add-on generator protections, H2 Modbus RTU, H13 MTU ADEC, I1 PC emulation, L2 display heating to -40 °C, N Ethernet, T1 critical power and T2 digital AVR control for the DEIF DVC 310 or Leroy-Somer D510C. Accessories include the AOP-2 operator panel (2912411060, up to five per controller), the display gasket (2912420030), a USB cable (1022040065) and a crossed Ethernet cable (1022040055). The IOM 220 or IOM 230 modules add analogue governor and AVR regulation on genset variants.

The data sheet lists variant item numbers 2912420010-18 to 2912420010-27, while its worked example uses 2912420060-21 for an AGC 232 with C2, H2 and L2, so confirm the item number on the quotation. Also confirm the variant, option letters, breaker arrangement and engine ECU protocol.

How the DEIF AGC 200 works

The controller measures the voltage and current of the generator and the mains through its own circuits. It starts and stops the engine, closes the breakers and shares the load. On a single set it works alone. In a larger plant the controllers talk on a CAN bus and share the load between the generators.

Where the AGC 200 is used

  • Single generator sets
  • Island power plants
  • Automatic mains failure systems
  • Peak shaving
  • Parallel plants with several gensets

Selection checklist for the AGC 200

  • Variant such as AGC 212, 222 or 242
  • Island or mains operation
  • Number of gensets
  • Measuring voltage
  • Number of inputs and relay outputs
  • CAN bus ports needed
  • Number of display units
  • Operating temperature

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the AGC 200

Cut the panel opening to the size in the data sheet and fix the controller in the door. Wire the voltage and current transformers with correct polarity. Connect the supply, the start and stop outputs and the breaker feedbacks. Set the plant mode and the protections with the USB service port. Test each mode with the plant off load first.

About brand

DEIF is a Danish, family-owned and independent manufacturer of control and protection devices for power generation, founded in a Copenhagen backyard in 1933 and now based in Skive. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes DEIF AGC, SGC and CGC genset controllers for standby plants, paralleling systems and engine-driven sets.

DEIF genset and power management controllers

DEIF describes itself as a supplier of power control solutions for decentralised power generation on land and at sea. Its genset controllers range from the compact SGC and CGC units to the AGC 150 and AGC-4 Mk II controllers, which add synchronisation and power management for plants with many gensets. DEIF data sheets state the supply range, I/O, protections and approvals of each controller.

Ordering DEIF controllers

Name the exact model and variant, the software package or option letters where they apply, the quantity and the engine make and ECU protocol. DEIF configures several controllers by variant and option, so the data sheet on each page should be checked against the project before a quotation is issued.
