DEIF iE 250 Intelligent Energy Controller for Gensets
Description
An intelligent energy controller for land gensets
The DEIF iE 250 is a versatile, modular intelligent energy controller for land applications. It controls and protects gensets, mains connections and bus tie breakers, from single set control up to engineered energy management with DEIF fuel optimisation. It comes in two hardware versions: a front-mounted iE 250 (7") with a 7 inch touchscreen, and a base-mounted iE 250 (Base) for DIN rail or back panel mounting that is used with the iE 7 display.

Control, load sharing and applications
Control modes are local from the display buttons or remote from digital inputs, PICUS, Modbus, CustomLogic and CODESYS. Plant modes include automatic mains failure, fixed power, peak shaving, load take-over and mains power export, with island mode and power management for genset operation. Genset controllers can share load equally or asymmetrically and can synchronise and de-load mains and bus tie controllers, and busbar sections, including ring busbars, are detected automatically.
Priority selection can be relative, absolute, manual, by running hours or by fuel optimisation, with generator load-dependent start and stop. DEIF marks readiness for solar and battery as a feature to confirm with DEIF for availability. The front-mounted unit has the same panel cut-out as the iE 150 and AGC 150. Series 300 and 600 extension modules, the latter with CODESYS, add I/O.
Voltage regulation and ordering
The iE 250 can control the DEIF DVC 350 and DVC 550 digital AVRs over CAN bus and receive fault information from them. Confirm the hardware version, the licence (Core or Power management), the I/O modules and the engine interface. The data sheet is the controller specification; individual module order numbers must be requested.
For electrical and mechanical details, the data sheet gives installation category III at 600 V with pollution degree 2 (IEC 60255-27), self-extinguishing UL94-V0 plastics and EMC to IEC 60255-26. Vibration is rated 0.15 mm peak-to-peak from 10 to 58.1 Hz and 1 g from 58.1 to 150 Hz, with 2 g endurance, and shock is 10 g, 30 g and 50 g at 11 ms. Controller ports are galvanically separated at 550 V, 50 Hz for one minute; on the MIO2.1 module the AVR output is separated at 3000 V, AC voltage at 3310 V and AC current at 2210 V. Software versions referenced are the iE 250 core application 2.0.19.x and PICUS 1.0.28.x.

About brand
DEIF is a Danish, family-owned manufacturer of control and protection equipment for power generation. It was founded on 1 June 1933 in Copenhagen by Erling Foss and two partners as Dansk Elektro Instrument Fabrik, and is now headquartered in Skive, Jutland, where its production and R&D are based. Its controllers run generator sets, switchboards and ship bridges on land and at sea.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list DEIF genset controllers, voltage regulators and protection units for generator packagers, power plant operators and marine users in Oman and the GCC.
DEIF company profile
| Founded | 1 June 1933, Copenhagen, Denmark, as Dansk Elektro Instrument Fabrik |
|---|---|
| Founders | Erling Foss and two partners |
| Headquarters | Skive, Denmark |
| Ownership | Founder's son Toke Foss and his three children |
| Product families | Genset and engine controllers (AGC, GC, multi-line 2), protection relays, switchboard meters and transducers, bridge instrumentation, wind turbine controls |
Milestones
- 1933: DEIF is founded in Copenhagen and starts by hand-assembling electromagnetic measuring instruments.
- Today: Production and R&D are based at the Skive headquarters; the group remains in the Foss family.
DEIF product series
Genset controllers range from the compact SGC 120 Mk II and SGC 420 Mk II (with breaker keys) and the CGC 400 to the AGC 150, which handles genset, mains and bus-tie breaker applications, the AGC 200 and the AGC-4 Mk II for group and plant control with many gensets. The iE 250 is an intelligent energy controller for gensets in hybrid and grid-connected plants.
Protection and paralleling units include the GPU-3 generator protection unit in marine and gas versions and the GPC-3 generator paralleling controller, while the PPM 300 and PPU 300 serve marine power management. The DVC 350 and DVC 550 are digital voltage controllers (AVRs) for synchronous generators.
Where DEIF controllers are used
Stand-by power for buildings, hospitals and data centres, prime power at remote oil and gas and mining sites, multi-genset paralleling plants, gas engine plants, and ship and offshore power management.

Ordering DEIF controllers: what we need
Name the exact model and variant, the software package or option letters where they apply, the quantity, the engine make and ECU protocol, and the breaker and mains configuration. DEIF configures several controllers by variant and option, so the data sheet on each page should be checked against the project before a quotation is issued.
Facts checked against DEIF's own history and facts pages (deif.com) and the Danish business register, October 2026.
