Brand:

DEIF DVC 350 Digital Voltage Controller AVR 5 A

Description

A compact digital AVR for shunt, AREP and PMG alternators

The DEIF DVC 350 is a digital voltage regulator that controls an alternator from the field current or the output voltage regulation loop. It is designed for alternators with SHUNT, AREP (auxiliary winding) or PMG (permanent magnet) excitation and adjusts the excitation current in the exciter field to hold the desired alternator output. DEIF states it can work with a wide range of existing alternators, with up to 5 A excitation current.

Regulation modes and setup

There are two regulation modes: voltage, with an adjustable set point as the default, and field current as a manual mode. Regulation features include reactive droop and line droop compensation, soft start, a load acceptance module (LAM), soft voltage recovery and start on threshold. Setup is done through the USB port with the DEIF EasyReg Advanced utility software, which also monitors values during commissioning and saves and downloads settings.

Two potentiometers on the housing adjust the PID global gain or reactive droop (STA.) and the voltage (VOLT.). The terminals cover excitation F+ and F-, the power supply, alternator voltage sensing, current measurement for parallel operation with a CT, the CAN port, the analogue input and the digital channels.

Controllers and ordering

DEIF states the DVC 350 can be used with an AGC 150 or iE 250 controller for digital voltage regulation, with those controllers commanding it and reading fault data over CAN bus much like an engine control unit. Hardware and firmware versions in the sheet are hardware 1 and firmware 1.00. For the alternator, give the excitation type, rated field current and resistance, the aux DC supply and whether parallel operation with a CT is needed. For a higher field-current device see the separate DVC 550 page.

For installation, DEIF specifies mounting in a cabinet or terminal box without excessive vibration, ambient temperature of -40 to 70 °C, 95 percent relative humidity (IEC 60068-2-14 test Db) and a maximum impact of 9 g on all three axes. The EMC standards listed are IEC 61000-6-2 and IEC 61000-6-4, with dry heat, damp heat and cold tests to IEC 60068-2-2, 60028-2-30 and 60068-2-1. The digital channels can each be used as an input or an output, and the analogue input accepts 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 10 V, plus or minus 10 V or plus or minus 5 V.

How the DEIF DVC 350 works

The regulator reads the alternator output voltage on its sensing terminals. It compares the reading with the set point. It then raises or lowers the current in the exciter field to hold the output steady. In manual mode it holds a field current instead.

Where the DVC 350 is used

  • Shunt excited alternators
  • AREP excited alternators
  • PMG excited alternators

About brand

DEIF is a Danish, family-owned and independent manufacturer of control and protection devices for power generation, founded in a Copenhagen backyard in 1933 and now based in Skive. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes DEIF AGC, SGC and CGC genset controllers for standby plants, paralleling systems and engine-driven sets.

DEIF genset and power management controllers

DEIF describes itself as a supplier of power control solutions for decentralised power generation on land and at sea. Its genset controllers range from the compact SGC and CGC units to the AGC 150 and AGC-4 Mk II controllers, which add synchronisation and power management for plants with many gensets. DEIF data sheets state the supply range, I/O, protections and approvals of each controller.

Ordering DEIF controllers

Name the exact model and variant, the software package or option letters where they apply, the quantity and the engine make and ECU protocol. DEIF configures several controllers by variant and option, so the data sheet on each page should be checked against the project before a quotation is issued.
