Brand:

Yuasa REC80-12I 12V 80Ah Cyclic AGM VRLA Battery

Description

Cyclic AGM battery for repeated charge and discharge duty

The Yuasa REC80-12I is a 12 V, 80 Ah (20-hour rate) valve-regulated AGM battery from the REC series, which Yuasa describes as cyclic AGM VRLA batteries. Where a standby battery sits on float for years, a cyclic battery is charged and discharged regularly, for example in small solar and off-grid storage or in mobile and portable equipment. The label on the block reads Cyclic Application.

Yuasa publishes cycle-life data for the REC80-12I: 300 cycles at 100 % depth of discharge, 500 cycles at 75 %, 600 cycles at 50 % and 1400 cycles at 25 %, each to 80 % of capacity. The data sheet does not give a EUROBAT classification, and quotes a design life of up to 10 years at 20 °C.

Charging cyclic batteries

A cyclic duty battery needs a charger with the boost voltage of 14.52 V per block at 20 °C and a current limit of 20 A, with temperature compensation of -4 mV per cell per °C. The data sheet gives the same float and boost current limit. A charger that is set for float only will not recharge a deeply discharged block quickly.

Installation limits match other Yuasa VRLA blocks: up to 90 degrees from upright, no suspending by the handles, and no installation in a sealed container because hydrogen can accumulate. Note the narrower temperature range of this block, -15 to +45 °C for storage, charge and discharge, compared with the NPL series.

Choosing a REC size

Model Voltage Capacity (Yuasa page) Series
REC22-12I 12 V 22 Ah Cyclic AGM VRLA
REC26-12I 12 V 26 Ah Cyclic AGM VRLA
REC36-12I 12 V 36 Ah Cyclic AGM VRLA
REC50-12I 12 V 50 Ah Cyclic AGM VRLA
REC80-12I (this page) 12 V 80 Ah Cyclic AGM VRLA

Size the battery from the daily energy throughput and the depth of discharge, using the cycle-life figures above, and confirm the charger profile. For a standby-duty alternative see the NPL65-12I long-life block or Yuasa NP12-12 sealed lead acid battery.

About brand

Yuasa, a brand of Kyoto-based GS Yuasa Corporation with roots going back to 1918, is known for sealed lead-acid batteries used in standby power. Its NP series of valve-regulated batteries serves standby and cyclic duty in UPS units, alarm panels and control cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists the Yuasa NP12-12 and supplies Yuasa sealed lead-acid batteries to industrial and commercial facilities in Oman.

Yuasa NP batteries listed here

The Yuasa NP12-12 is a 12 V, 12 Ah sealed lead-acid battery of the absorbent glass mat type with Faston terminals. In NP designations the first number is the capacity in ampere-hours and the second is the nominal voltage, so NP7-12 would be a 7 Ah, 12 V block. Extra letters after the number mark a variant, such as FR for a flame-retardant case.

Ordering Yuasa batteries: what we need

Send the full type printed on the battery, including any suffix letters, and the quantity. Tell us the equipment it serves, such as a UPS model or a fire alarm panel, and the terminal type on the old battery. Measure length, width and height if the label is missing. For a UPS, state how many blocks are in the string, since they should be replaced together. We also quote Yuasa batteries for buyers elsewhere in the GCC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does cyclic mean for the REC80-12I?
It is designed for regular charge and discharge cycles rather than float standby only. Yuasa gives 300 cycles at 100 % depth of discharge and 1400 cycles at 25 %, to 80 % of capacity.
