H2scan HY-OPTIMA 2700 Explosion Proof In-Line Hydrogen Analyzer
Description
Hydrogen-specific measurement inside a hazardous-area process line
HY-OPTIMA 2700 is a family of explosion proof in-line hydrogen process analyzers from H2scan. Each unit uses a solid-state, non-consumable sensor that reads hydrogen directly in the process gas, so no reference gas or carrier gas is needed and the datasheet states there is no cross sensitivity to combustible gases. The series covers four models, 2710, 2720, 2730 and 2740, which differ in hydrogen range and in the carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide the sensor can tolerate.
The manufacturer positions the series for refinery streams such as catalytic reforming, hydrodesulfurization, fuel gas and tail gas treating, for hydrogen in natural gas or biomethane, for air separation, steam methane reforming and electrolysis streams, and for flare gas and polymer feed measurement in petrochemical plants.
Key points from the datasheet:
- Real-time, continuous hydrogen measurement with no reference or carrier gas.
- Non-consumable solid-state technology that, per the datasheet, does not degrade over time.
- Field-configurable settings and minimal maintenance, with a quoted 90 day calibration interval.
- Tolerant of many harsh background contaminants and described as easy to install and operate.
- A separate remote control unit certified for Class I Division 1 Groups A, B, C and D.

Selecting model 2710, 2720, 2730 or 2740
The datasheet product-selection table is reproduced below. Accuracy, drift per week, repeatability and linearity are quoted as absolute values for a dry stream at 25°C with pressure compensation, in addition to errors in the calibration gas.
| Model | H2 range | Process condition | Response | Accuracy | Calibration background gas |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2710 | 0.03% to 10% H2 | Hydrogen must be present; CO below 100 ppm; H2S below 20 ppm | T90 below 90 s | 0.15% (low range) | N2 |
| 2720 | 0.4% to 5% H2 | Hydrogen need not be present; CO 0, H2S 0 | T90 below 60 s | 0.3% | O2, N2 |
| 2730 | 0.5% to 100% H2 | Hydrogen must be present; CO below 100 ppm; H2S below 1000 ppm | T90 below 60 s | 0.3% to 10% H2; 1.0% from 10 to 100% | N2 |
| 2740 | 0.5% to 100% H2 | Hydrogen must be present; CO limit 20%; H2S limit 3% | T90 below 90 s | 0.3% to 10% H2; 1.0% from 10 to 100% | N2 |
Choose 2720 where hydrogen is only occasionally present in air, oxygen or nitrogen, 2730 for general high-range streams, and 2740 where the stream carries high carbon monoxide or hydrogen sulfide.
Applications and installation notes
In Gulf refineries and gas plants the typical fit is a sample or bypass line on a hydrotreater, reformer or fuel gas header, where the explosion proof housing allows mounting in the classified area and the remote control unit gives the operator a local display and settings. The sensor must be kept within the stated pressure and flow window, and the stream must be dry because the specification assumes a dry process gas.
Because calibration is quoted every 90 days against primary standard gas, plan a calibration gas supply that spans the expected range and matches the background gas listed for the model.
Why choose the 2700 over other H2scan analyzers
Within the H2scan range the 2700 series is the one certified for mounting the analyzer itself in a classified area: US and Canada Class I Division 1 Groups B, C and D, ATEX II 2 G Ex d IIB + H2 T4 Gb, IECEx Ex db IIB + H2 T4 Gb, KOSAH and UKCA. The remote control carries Ex ia IIC T4 ratings. The 700B and 5232 do not list these ratings on their datasheets.
Two numeric limits to remember from the footnotes: the quoted hazardous-area certifications apply at a maximum of 1.1 ATM absolute and 55°C ambient at the analyzer, and process gas must stay between -20 and 60°C.

Documents and quotation
The H2scan datasheet is attached to this page. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat; send the model number (2710, 2720, 2730 or 2740), the process gas composition and the area classification through the gas analyzer systems category to receive a quotation. Please also state whether a remote control unit is required, since the datasheet lists separate certifications for the analyzer and for the remote control, and tell us the sample line size and connection style so that the correct fittings can be confirmed against the manufacturer manual.
