A 10 kW three-phase string inverter for small commercial systems

The Sungrow SG10RT-P2 is a two-MPPT, three-phase string inverter for 1000 Vdc systems with 10 kW rated power and 11 kVA maximum apparent power. It belongs to the SG5.0/6.0/7.0/8.0/10/12RT-P2 series and is one of the larger models, with 15 kWp recommended maximum PV input and 2/1 strings on its two MPPTs.

Light at 18 kg, with IP65 and C5 anti-corrosion ratings, plug-and-play connectors and app commissioning, it targets compact commercial and villa systems. Sungrow lists a quick arc fault circuit interrupter, built-in Type II DC and AC SPD, PID recovery, remote firmware updates and 24/7 online monitoring.

Protection and general data

Datasheet footnote: if the maximum DC voltage in the system can exceed 1000 V, the supplied MC4 connectors must not be used and MC4 Evo2 connectors must be used instead. For Belgium and Germany the maximum AC output power is 10000 VA; for Jordan the maximum AC current is 16 A.

Choosing within the RT-P2 series

The series runs from 5 kW to 12 kW on one datasheet (SG5.0, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 10 and 12RT-P2); the 10 kW model has the 2/1 string layout and a 15 kWp array limit, while the 5 and 6 kW models have 1/1. A separate SG15, 17 and 20RT-P2 datasheet exists for larger ratings. Pick the model from the array size and utility export limit, and verify the AC voltage option (380, 400 or 415 V line-to-line) and the DEWA entry in the compliance list if the plant is in Dubai.

Installation and operation notes

Wall-mount the 18 kg unit with the bracket, in shade, with natural cooling clearance. Use the supplied MC4 connectors only if the system voltage cannot exceed 1000 V, as the datasheet warns. WLAN, Ethernet and RS485 communication are fitted, and commissioning is by app. The string layout of 2 on MPPT 1 and 1 on MPPT 2 should be considered when splitting roof planes.

Where the SG10RT-P2 is used

It fits small commercial roofs, shops, schools and larger villas on three-phase supply. The rated ambient is 60 C, with natural cooling and C5 protection, but a summer roof surface can approach the limit, so place the inverter in shade. Local approval (the datasheet lists DEWA among grid codes) is to be confirmed for the specific project.

Selection and use notes

Design the string layout from the module data so that the voltage and current stay inside the inverter window over the temperature range at the site, mount the unit with the clear space the manual requires for cooling and check the AC cable, the protection devices and the local grid connection rules before ordering. Keep the commissioning record for the warranty file.
