A compact online UPS with an integrated lithium-ion battery
The AEG Protect D Li-ion is a single-phase in and out UPS from 1,000 to 3,000 VA with integrated lithium-ion (LiFePO4) batteries. It is classified VFI SS 313 per IEC 62040-3, has a maximum output power factor of 1, and fits a 2U rack or tower set-up with a rotatable LCD panel. AEG Power Solutions states a battery service life of 8 to 10 years.
Compared with standard VRLA batteries the brochure lists roughly 9 to 10 times more cycles, about 40 % less weight, about 50 % less size, two to three times the life and three times faster charging. Battery packs are 1U each, and up to four external packs can be added with automatic detection.

Battery management and communication
The UPS has Level 3 lithium battery connection, with synchronisation between battery and UPS (state of charge, state of health, behaviour and external balancing), SOC and SOH prediction, multi-level protection and an automatic battery capacity test. Two output groups provide load segment control and a maintenance bypass accessory is available.
Communication includes integrated Modbus, USB, RS232, dry contacts, RPO and ROO connectors and optional SNMP/Modbus, with CompuWatch shutdown software including five network licences. Alarm signals are expandable and a frequency converter mode is available.
What to confirm before ordering
Backup time depends on the rating, load and number of external battery packs, so confirm the autonomy target and ask the manufacturer for the exact figure for the configuration. The brochure says up to four external packs can be added at 1U each.
This is an IT-class UPS for rack and edge use, not a heavy-duty industrial unit. Confirm the part number (listed as printed), the battery transport and shipping classification for lithium-ion goods, and the communication options required.

AEG Power Solutions product series
The Protect RCS family covers thyristor-controlled rectifiers and battery chargers: SPRe and TPRe single- and three-phase units, the TPRe TD version for transmission and distribution, the compact mSPRe and the modular switch-mode MIPe system with hot-swappable MIPe NewGen modules. They charge nickel-cadmium and lead-acid batteries and feed DC loads.
