Brand:

Miller Spectrum 625 X-TREME Air Plasma Cutter and Gouger, 40 A

Description

A 40 A plasma cutter and gouger in a 21 lb case-carried package

The Miller Spectrum 625 X-TREME steps up from the 30 A class to a 40 A output at 140 VDC and 60% duty cycle. Miller rates a clean cut of 5/8 in. (16 mm) in mild steel, a maximum sever of 7/8 in. (22.2 mm), and adds gouging with dedicated consumables. With a 12 ft torch it weighs 21 lb (9.5 kg); with the 20 ft torch, 23 lb (10.5 kg). Typical uses are plant maintenance, light construction, shutdown repair, fabrication shops and body shops.

Auto-Line connects to 120-240 V single-phase, 60 Hz supply without internal changes. On 120 V input the output is automatically reduced to 27 A. Features printed by Miller include line voltage compensation for plus or minus 15 percent supply variation, Auto-Refire for expanded metal, automatic air regulation, auto postflow that sets the postflow time to protect consumable life, and automatic gouging-consumable detection that adjusts gas pressure without a manual regulator.

Mild steel cut speeds and torch configuration

Recommended travel speeds, about 80 percent of maximum, at 40 A: 1/8 in. at 156 ipm, 1/4 in. at 64 ipm, 3/8 in. at 36 ipm, 1/2 in. at 22 ipm and 5/8 in. at 13 ipm. At 27 A on 120 V: 12 ga. at 115 ipm, 1/8 in. at 88 ipm, 3/16 in. at 50 ipm, 1/4 in. at 28 ipm, 3/8 in. at 15 ipm, 1/2 in. at 8 ipm and 5/8 in. at 5 ipm.

The XT40 torch cuts at either 30 A or 40 A by fitting the matching tip and drag shield. A deflector in place of the drag shield improves arc visibility with a 1/16 in. standoff, and for gouging the tip and drag shield are replaced by a gouge tip and gouge shield; the remaining consumables are common. The control panel has ranges marked for the 30 A tip on 120 V 15 A and 20 A supplies and for the 40 A tip on a 240 V 30 A or 50 A supply.

Ordering, accessories and what to confirm before ordering

Stock number 907579 is the Spectrum 625 X-TREME with a 12 ft XT40 torch and X-CASE; 907579001 has the 20 ft torch. The package includes a 12 ft power cord with an L6-30P twist-lock plug for the MVP adapters, adapters with 6-50P (240 V, 50 A) and 5-15P (120 V, 15 A) plugs, a 5-20P adapter (254331) as an option, a work clamp with flexible cable and a consumables box. Printed accessories include torches 260633 (12 ft) and 260635 (20 ft), consumable kit 253521, torch cable covers 239642 and 231867, work cable 263799 or 263800, X-CASE 300184, KVA adapter cord 300517 and the air filter kit 228926.

Confirm the supply (the sheet gives 60 Hz ratings only), the plug standard, the material and thickness, and the air quality available. A generator supply needs a 240 V receptacle of 4 kW or more. For heavier duty see the Miller Spectrum 875, or browse all Plasma Cutting Systems.

How the Miller Spectrum 625 X-TREME works

Compressed air flows through the torch. An electric arc heats the air into a plasma jet. The jet melts the metal and blows the molten metal out of the cut. Different consumables let the same unit gouge.

About brand

Blue welding machines from Appleton, USA, where Miller has built arc welding equipment since 1929, are a common sight in pipe shops and on construction sites. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Miller welding power sources, engine-driven welders, induction heating systems, MIG guns and auto-darkening helmets for fabricators and contractors in Oman, and checks each model and its input power configuration against the manufacturer's documentation before quoting.

Miller product families listed here

Miller welding machines on this page cover most processes used in plant construction and maintenance:

  • TIG and stick: Dynasty 400 AC/DC and Maxstar 210 STR
  • Multiprocess: XMT 400 ArcReach, XMT 650 and the PipeWorx 400 pipe welding system
  • Engine-driven welders: Trailblazer 330 and Big Blue 800 Duo Pro
  • Induction heating: ProHeat 35
  • Guns and helmets: XR-Aluma-Pro push-pull gun; T94, Classic, Digital Performance, Digital Elite and Digital Infinity helmets

Where Miller equipment is used

An XMT or PipeWorx set suits pipe spools and structural work where one power source must run stick, TIG, MIG and flux-cored procedures. Dynasty machines handle aluminum and stainless TIG. Trailblazer and Big Blue engine drives go where no mains supply exists, such as pipelines, tank erection and remote maintenance in the GCC. The ProHeat 35 is used for preheat and post-weld heat treatment of pipe joints.

Ordering Miller machines and parts: what we need

State the model and the Miller part number of the exact package, because the same machine is sold in several configurations. Give the supply at your site (voltage, phase and 50 Hz), the process and maximum current, and the accessories needed: wire feeder, remote control, cable length, torch or gun, cooler, running gear. For spare parts, the serial number from the rating label is essential, since Miller parts lists are issued by serial number range. For helmets, name the series and lens type.
