Helukabel TOPFLEX 611-C-PUR Screened Servo Motor Cable

The Helukabel TOPFLEX 611-C-PUR is a screened PUR motor supply cable made for energy chains, robots and machine tools. It has extra-fine-stranded conductors, PP core insulation, an inner TPE sheath, a tinned-copper braid of about 85 percent coverage and a grey polyurethane outer sheath. Helukabel recommends it as a supply cable for DNC and servo motors, and lists it as drag-chain suitable, halogen-free and suitable for outdoor installation.

The data sheet states the cables are designed for energy supply chains, automatic handling machines, robots, machine tools and processing machines, with favourable outer diameters, reduced weights and improved torsional behaviour for multi-shift operation with extremely high alternating bending stress. Its notes require that the assembly instructions are observed and that further application parameters are taken from the selection tables; for special applications, such as unusual travel or speed, Helukabel asks to be contacted with its data entry form for energy supply systems.

The cable is for supply lines. Encoder or feedback lines belong in a separate cable, such as the signal types in the TOPSERV and TOPGEBER families, and brake or temperature-sensor wires must be routed according to the drive manufacturer instructions. Terminate the screen at both ends with an all-round contact for EMC, as Helukabel advises.

How the TOPFLEX 611-C-PUR screened servo cable works

A servo motor is driven by a converter that switches high voltage at high frequency, which sends noise into the cable and the surroundings. The TOPFLEX 611-C-PUR carries three power cores and a protective conductor to the motor, and a braided tinned copper screen with about 85 percent coverage keeps the noise inside the cable. The extra-fine stranded conductors let it bend in an energy chain millions of times, and the polyurethane outer sheath resists oil, coolant, abrasion and cuts. An inner TPE sheath and a fleece wrap keep the screen from damaging the cores.

Installation, termination and maintenance notes

Lay the cable in the chain without twist, with free space around it and no crossing with other cables. Do not tie it down in the bending zone, and fix it at the chain ends with strain relief. Terminate the screen with a large all-round contact at the converter and at the motor. Check the cable for wear during maintenance, and replace it after a long period of heavy chain use. Observe the assembly instructions of the cable manufacturer and ask for advice on unusual travel or speed.

Power cable and feedback cable are separate

This cable supplies the motor. Encoder and feedback lines need their own screened cables, and should run apart from the power cable where possible.

Why polyurethane for chain cables

Polyurethane is tough and abrasion resistant, and it stays flexible in the cold. These properties suit cables that rub and bend inside a moving chain.

Cable routing in energy chains

Place the TOPFLEX 611-C-PUR in its own compartment of the chain, with a divider between it and thin signal cables, and leave about ten percent free space in the chain width. Keep the cable length equal in the chain so that it does not twist or push against the neighbouring cable.
