Victron AGM Super Cycle Battery 12V 100Ah BAT412110081
Description
The Victron AGM Super Cycle Battery 12V 100Ah (BAT412110081) is a sealed AGM battery developed for deep cycling. Victron describes the positive plate paste as less sensitive to softening, even after repeated 100 percent discharge, and the electrolyte additives as reducing sulfation after deep discharge. It is the 100 Ah size of a range that runs from 15 Ah to 230 Ah.
An AGM battery tested to survive a rest in the discharged state
Victron quotes tests showing at least three hundred 100 percent depth-of-discharge cycles. Each test discharges to 10.8 V at 0.2C20, rests about two hours fully discharged and then recharges at 0.2C20. According to Victron, that rest period damages most batteries within 100 cycles but not the Super Cycle. The company recommends it where an occasional 100 percent discharge or frequent discharge to 60 to 80 percent is expected. The new chemistry also gives a slightly smaller, lighter battery with lower internal resistance than standard Victron deep cycle AGM.

Selection and charging notes
The recommended absorption voltage depends on the duty: normal cycle service and fast recharge have different ranges. Set the charger accordingly and use temperature compensation where batteries run in hot rooms, which is common in the Gulf. Choose the size from the daily Ah drawn and the allowed depth of discharge, not from the nameplate alone. A 12 V 100 Ah unit weighs 26 kg and uses M6 inserts, so check lugs. For another AGM option see the Yuasa SWL3300 12V 110Ah High-Rate AGM Battery, and browse UPS and batteries.
Victron gives three charge-voltage cases. Cycle service with normal recharge uses 14.2 to 14.6 V absorption, fast recharge uses 14.6 to 14.9 V, and float and storage voltages are 13.5 to 13.8 V and 13.2 to 13.5 V. The datasheet adds that charge voltage should be reduced as temperature rises, with compensation of -4 mV per cell, equal to -24 mV per degree C on a 12 V battery, centred at 25 degrees C. For a bank in an unconditioned enclosure this correction matters, because a fixed charge voltage in high ambient heat shortens the life of a VRLA battery. Quote the exact article number, because the range spans eight sizes from 15 Ah to 230 Ah with different terminals.

About brand
Victron Energy is the Dutch maker of off-grid and backup power equipment: inverters, inverter chargers, battery chargers, solar charge controllers, lithium and lead batteries, and monitoring. Reinout Vader founded the company in the Netherlands in 1975 after rebuilding and improving inverters himself, and it is headquartered in Almere. In December 2012 ownership passed to his sons Matthijs, Franck and Erik Vader, and the company remains family-owned.
