Brand:

Spirax Sarco M10S Three-Piece Ball Valve, DN1/4 to DN2-1/2

Description

A serviceable isolating ball valve for steam, gas and liquids

The Spirax Sarco M10S is a three-piece body ball valve designed as an isolating valve, not as a control valve. Screwed and welded versions can be serviced without removal from the pipeline. It can be used with the majority of industrial fluids from vacuum to higher temperatures and pressures, and the PN100 body is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 17.5 bar g on saturated steam.

Three body types are available: the M10S2 in zinc-plated carbon steel, the M10S3 in stainless steel body and cap with other parts as listed, and the M10S4 in complete stainless steel. Each is supplied in full bore (FB) or reduced bore (RB), and all use carbon/graphite reinforced PTFE (PDR 0.8) seats.

Connections, standards and construction

Full bore valves come in ¼ to 2 in (DN15 to DN50) and reduced bore in ½ to 2-1/2 in (DN15 to DN65). Screwed and welded ends are BSP (BS 21 Rp or ISO 228 G), BSPT (Rc), NPT, butt weld Sch 40/40S and socket weld, and flanged ends are ASME Class 150, Class 300 and EN 1092 PN40. The design follows ASME B16.34, ASME B16.10 (with listed exceptions) and EN 558; leakage tests follow ISO 5208 Rate A and EN 12266-1 Rate A, and the antistatic device complies with ISO 7121 and BS 5351. The flow characteristic is modified linear.

The M10S2 body and cap are ASTM A105 zinc plated carbon steel, the M10S3 and M10S4 body and cap are ASTM A182 F316L, and the ball and stem are AISI 316 in all types. The stem seal is reinforced antistatic PTFE. Certification to EN 10204 2.2 or 3.1 is available when stated at order.

Pressure and temperature limits

The body design condition is PN100: maximum allowable pressure 100 bar g at 60 °C, maximum allowable temperature 260 °C at 0 bar g and minimum -29 °C. The datasheet chart gives separate limits for screwed and welded ¼ to 1-1/2 in valves and 2 in reduced bore, for 2 in full bore and 2-1/2 in reduced bore (which have a PTFE gasket between body and cap), and for each flange standard, and the flange standard can restrict the maximum operating pressure further. In gas applications the maximum operating pressure is restricted to 40 bar g.

For saturated steam the datasheet limit is 17.5 bar g on the steam saturation curve. As a general rule an isolating ball valve should be fully open or fully closed and never used to throttle flow. Related products are listed under Fittings & Valves.

How the Spirax Sarco M10S works

A ball with a bore through it sits between two seats inside the body. Turning the lever rotates the ball a quarter turn. With the bore in line with the pipe the valve is open, and with the bore across the pipe the valve is closed. The seats seal against the ball to hold the fluid back.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the M10S

Fit the valve with the lever clear of obstructions and with room to turn it. Use it as an isolating valve and not for throttling. Operate it fully open or fully closed. Because the body is three-piece, the centre section can be serviced without lifting the valve from the line on the screwed and welded versions.

About brand

Steam is the specialty of Spirax Sarco: how to generate it cleanly, distribute it, control it and get the condensate back. The company dates from 1888 and is based in Cheltenham, United Kingdom. Seven Star LLC lists Spirax Sarco clean steam equipment, bellows sealed stop valves, steam traps and steam flowmeters, and sources them for process plants, hospitals and food factories in Oman.

Spirax Sarco products listed here

The listing includes these main groups, along with further steam traps, pressure reducing valves and filters:

  • Clean steam and hygienic equipment: the CSG-HS clean steam generator, STERI-TROL clean service control valve, SRV66 sanitary pressure reducing valve, SVL488 clean service safety valve and the BT6-B balanced pressure thermostatic steam trap
  • Isolation valves: BSA and BSAT bellows sealed stop valves, the BSA3HP high pressure version, A3S and A3SS valves and the DBB3 double block and bleed valve
  • Steam metering: ILVA variable area flowmeter and the TVA and TFA target flowmeters

The STS17.2 steam-trapping station is a compact assembly for drain points.

Where Spirax Sarco steam equipment is used

Plant steam systems in refineries, chemical plants, laundries and food production use Spirax Sarco steam traps, stop valves and flowmeters for distribution and energy accounting. Clean steam products serve sterilizers, bioreactors, pharmaceutical water systems and food contact processes, where stainless steel wetted parts and documented surface finish are required. Requests from the GCC are often for a like-for-like trap or valve on an existing line.

Ordering Spirax Sarco parts: what we need

Give the product type (for example BSA3T or BT6-B), nominal size, end connection and its standard (flanged PN or ASME class, screwed, butt weld or sanitary clamp), body material and the operating pressure and temperature. For steam traps add the condensate load and differential pressure. For Spirax Sarco flowmeters send line size, steam pressure and the flow range, plus the display or flow computer required. On clean steam items, state the surface finish and the material certificates you need. A nameplate photo helps where the type is not known.
