Overview

Atlas Copco G 2-22 is the Atlas Copco G series of oil-injected rotary screw compressors for small and medium sized industrial users, covering the G 2-7, G 7L-15 and G 15L-22 ranges with installed motor power from 2.2 to 22 kW (3 to 30 hp). Atlas Copco presents the series as an ideal small business compressor with built-in reliability, easy installation and simple maintenance. Operating Principle

An oil-injected rotary screw compressor draws air through an inlet filter and an inlet valve into a compression element, where two meshing helical rotors trap and reduce the volume of air as they turn. Oil is injected into the element to seal the rotor clearances, cool the air and lubricate the bearings. The mixture of compressed air and oil is then sent to an oil separator element, which returns the oil to the circuit through the oil cooler, thermostatic valve block and oil filter. A minimum pressure valve protects the system, and the air passes through an aftercooler and, in tank mounted variants, an air receiver.

In the Full Feature version the Atlas Copco G 2-22 adds an integrated refrigerant dryer and in-line filters. The dryer cools the compressed air so that moisture condenses in a water separator, and an electronic automatic drain removes the water, which prevents rust in compressed air piping and damage to air tools. The compression element is belt driven, which Atlas Copco says contributes to silent operation with reduced noise levels and low vibration. A high-efficiency IE3 motor is used on the G 2-7 range so that the machine can run around the clock.

Engineering Design of the Atlas Copco G 2-22

The Atlas Copco G 2-22 range is available in several configurations: floor mounted or tank mounted, Pack or Full Feature. The Atlas Copco G 2-22 cabinet has an extremely small footprint, and cooling air is discharged from the top so the machine can be placed against a wall or even in a corner. The main service components, such as the oil separator and filter, are easily accessible, and the long service interval is stated as 4000 hours. Filters can be selected by range: DD for the G 2-7, DDx or PDx for the G 7L-15 and DD or UD+ for the G 15L-22.

Control of the Atlas Copco G 2-22 is by the Elektronikon Nano controller with a premium quality intuitive display, remote control and monitoring and real-time service alerts. The Delayed Second Stop function stops the motor whenever possible while keeping the desired system pressure, which minimises motor run time and energy use. The SMARTLINK app allows the user to turn the compressor on and off, set the load and unload pressure and pressure bands and create a weekly schedule over Bluetooth, to monitor pressure, temperature, running hours and operating mode, and to run a leakage detection programme. As new features become available they can be sent securely to the controller with the owner’s agreement.
