MXQ12-50 is an air slide table from the SMC MXQ series. A table is guided by a cross-roller or linear guide in a compact body and is driven by a double-acting air cylinder, with two piston rods that give an output twice that of a single-rod cylinder of the same bore, according to the catalogue. The table is used to move, press or position parts and small tools in assembly equipment, where a guided stroke with low play is needed.

The code reads MXQ (series), 12 (12 mm bore) and 50 (50 mm stroke). No port-thread letter, symmetric-type letter, functional option or adjuster option is given, so this is the standard type with M5 x 0.8 ports and no stroke adjuster. Adjusters (AS, AT and so on), a buffer (F), an end lock (R) or axial piping (P) are added as letters.

The standard table stops on rubber bumpers. For a more precise or a gentler stop, the catalogue offers extension-end or retraction-end adjusters with a rubber stopper (stroke adjustment of 0 to 5 mm), shock absorbers or metal stoppers. A buffer mechanism (F) softens the stop, and an end lock (R) holds the table at the end of the stroke if the air supply is lost; the end lock is not offered in the smallest 6 mm size.

When an adjuster or a metal stopper is used, the catalogue limits the piston speed to 50 to 200 mm/s, so the speed must be controlled accordingly.

Selection and installation

The load, its overhang from the table and the mounting direction decide whether the 12 mm size is enough: the catalogue has a model-selection procedure with load mass, overhang and moment coefficients, and it must be followed before choosing the bore. Do not apply an impact or a bending load to the table. Use speed controllers, and keep the air clean and dry.

A built-in magnet allows auto switches to be fitted; the switches are ordered separately, and a version without the magnet is available as made-to-order X33.

The maximum operating speed with a metal stopper is 200 mm/s. The allowable moment falls as the average speed rises, so follow the catalogue procedure with the load mass, overhang and speed of your application.

How the MXQ12-50 Air Slide Table Works

Two parallel piston rods inside the body are joined to the end plate of the table, so the slide table gives about twice the output of a single-rod cylinder of the same bore. The table runs on a recirculating linear guide. The guide block body and the table, which is integrated with the guide rail, are made of martensitic stainless steel. The workpiece is fixed with the tapped holes and positioning holes on the table, which improves repeatability when a tool is removed and refitted. The body can be mounted laterally with its taps, laterally with its through-holes, or vertically. Auto switches fit in grooves on the side of the body and do not protrude.

SMC compares the MXQ12-30 with the older MXS12-30 in the catalogue: parallelism 0.035 mm against 0.2 mm, height tolerance ±0.08 mm against ±0.2 mm, and a load resistance against sudden external force nearly three times greater.
