SICK DOS-1204-W Field Connector

Description

DOS-1204-W is a SICK field-wireable M12 female connector (part no. 6007303): female connector, M12, 4-pin, angled, A-coded. The cable is connected by screw-type terminals, so it can be fitted on site to a cable you cut to length, without a pre-moulded assembly.

Field-wireable M12 connector for sensors and actuators

This connector is the angled version. The cable leaves at 90 degrees to the sensor axis, which keeps the cable close to the machine surface and helps where there is little room behind the sensor.

Permitted cable diameter 4 mm … 6 mm and cross section ≤ 0.75 mm²; current loading 4 A; shielding: unshielded. Connector material PBT, colour black, locking nut CuZn, tightening torque 0.6 Nm, enclosure rating IP67 and head temperature range .

Type code DOS-1204-W and part number 6007303

DOS-1204-W is a DOS-series connector: the number in the code matches the pole count of the M12 thread (4 here) and the last letter tells the housing form. Part number 6007303 identifies it unambiguously. Mixing a 4-pin and a 5-pin connector is a frequent ordering mistake, so check your sensor plug first.

Neighbouring versions of this family that SICK lists as active, with their part numbers:

  • DOS-1204-G (part no. 6007302)
  • DOS-1204-WN (part no. 6028358)
  • DOS-1204-WZ (part no. 6048264)
  • DOS-1204-GX (part no. 6026528)
  • DOS-1204-GE (part no. 6048153)

Fitting the connector to a cable

Cut the cable to length, slide the nut and the seal over it, strip as in the assembly instructions and clamp each conductor in its numbered screw terminal. Tighten the nut to 0.6 Nm so the seal works (IP67). Use cable of 4 mm … 6 mm diameter and a conductor cross section up to ≤ 0.75 mm². Unshielded connectors give no screen termination, so choose another type where electromagnetic noise is a concern.

Field-wireable means the cable is terminated on site, so the cable diameter and conductor size you use must fit the connector; the data sheet gives the limits. Check the pin assignment against your sensor, and choose the angled body when the space behind the sensor is short. A connector that is not tightened correctly or not sealed on the cable weakens the protection rating of the whole connection.

Documents and quotation

We attach SICK’s own data sheet for part no. 6007303 (DOS-1204-W) as an unaltered PDF; use it to compare dimensions, connections and ratings with the device on your machine. Send the type code and part number with quantity and delivery location through the RFQ form and we will quote. Related items are listed under Automation Accessories. Please verify the variant against the nameplate of the device you are replacing, since similar types differ in small details. The data sheet is the authority.

About brand

Machine builders have relied on SICK since 1946 for the sensors that tell a controller where a part, a pallet or a person is. The company, based in Waldkirch, Germany, makes photoelectric, inductive and magnetic sensors, distance sensors and safety devices. Seven Star LLC supplies SICK sensors to maintenance teams and integrators in Oman, mostly as exact replacements identified by type code and part number.

SICK sensor families on this page

Five of the SICK families listed here are described below. The W4 miniature photoelectric sensors include the WTB4-3, a proximity sensor with background suppression. IME is the standard inductive proximity line, and the IME18 is the M18 housing size. RZT7 cylinder sensors fit T-slot pneumatic cylinders and detect the piston magnet. The DT35 belongs to the Dx35 laser distance sensors for mid-range measurement. The microScan3 is a safety laser scanner that guards hazardous zones around machines and vehicles.

Where SICK sensors are used

SICK sensors are fitted on packaging and bottling lines, conveyors, palletizers, warehouse cranes and automated guided vehicles. Safety laser scanners protect robot cells and transfer cars. In process plants, the same proximity and cylinder sensors report valve and damper positions on packaged equipment.

Ordering SICK sensors: what we need

A SICK type code such as IME18-08NPSZW2K packs the whole specification into one string: housing size, sensing range, flush or non-flush mounting, output type and connection. Each variant also has a 7-digit part number, and that number is the safest identifier. Please send:

  • Type code and part number from the sensor label, or a photo of it
  • Output type (PNP or NPN, normally open or closed) and connection (cable length or M8/M12 plug)
  • For microScan3: variant (Core or Pro), interface, protective field range, plus system plug and bracket

We check the code in SICK's documentation and tell you if the manufacturer lists a successor.
