Overview

The Omron CJ1W-ID211 is a 16-point 24 V DC input unit for the Omron CJ-series programmable controller family. It receives ON/OFF signals from field devices such as limit switches, pushbuttons, proximity sensors, pressure switches and relay contacts, and passes them into the I/O memory of the CPU Unit. The unit wires through a removable 18-point terminal block, occupies one word of I/O memory and draws a maximum of 80 mA from the 5 V internal bus.

CJ1 and CJ2 PLCs are widely used on skids, packaged machinery, water treatment panels and utility systems supplied into Oman and the GCC, and the CJ1W-ID211 is one of the most common modules in those racks. Working Principle

Each input channel of the Omron CJ1W-ID211 is a current-sinking or current-sourcing DC circuit with an input impedance of 3.3 kΩ, drawing about 7 mA at the rated 24 V DC. The datasheet guarantees an ON state at 14.4 V DC and 3 mA minimum, and an OFF state at 5 V DC and 1 mA maximum, which gives a clear band between a true signal and leakage from two-wire sensors or long cables. The 24 V DC CJ-series inputs can be connected to devices with either NPN or PNP outputs, with the same polarity used on one common, so the unit fits mixed sensor populations without selecting a different module.

Signals in the Omron CJ1W-ID211 pass through an internal filter before being read by the CPU. ON and OFF response times are 8.0 ms maximum by default, and the digital input filter can be set between 0 and 32 ms in the PLC Setup to suppress contact bounce or electrical noise from nearby drives and contactors. The input circuits are isolated from the internal logic, with 20 MΩ minimum insulation resistance and 1,000 V AC dielectric strength between the external terminals and the GR terminal, so field-side disturbances do not reach the CPU.

Engineering Design of the Omron CJ1W-ID211

The Omron CJ1W-ID211 follows the bookshelf-style CJ format: it locks to its neighbours with sliding connectors and yellow latches, with no backplane needed, and mounts on DIN rail together with the CPU Unit, power supply and other CJ units. The front carries 16 input indicators numbered 0 to 15 so technicians can check field signals at a glance. Field wiring lands on a removable 18-point terminal block with a hinged transparent cover; the block can be unplugged for unit replacement without disturbing the wiring.
