Enerpac WAP15008D Air-Driven Hydraulic Pump, 465 in3/min

WAP15008D is an Enerpac air-driven hydraulic pump for industrial, high-cycle service. It turns compressed air from 30 to 120 psi into hydraulic pressure at a 23:1 ratio, up to 2760 psi, with an output flow of 465 in3/min at 0 psi and a 415 in3 (1.8 gal) usable oil reservoir. A steel reservoir and a protective steel shroud give it a heavy-duty build, and a standard four-station DO3 manifold lets valves be mounted directly on the pump.

An economical air-powered supply for hydraulic circuits

Where compressed air is already on the plant, an air pump avoids an electric motor on the hydraulic side. The WAP15008D has a long-life, fully serviceable air motor and dual pump action that Enerpac says gives high oil capacity and smooth flow. It stalls at the set pressure and restarts on demand, automatically maintaining system pressure without running continuously.

Pressure is adjustable through the built-in air filter and regulator, and the pump needs no air lubrication. Enerpac quotes a reduced noise level of 75 dBA.

Selection and ordering guide

The WAP series has three sizes in the repair parts sheet: WAP07008D, WAP15008D and WAP30008D. Enerpac notes that maximum rated hydraulic pressure is based on 120 psi air for the WAP07 and WAP15 and 110 psi air for the WAP30. At 100 psi air the WAP15008D reaches 2320 psi at zero flow, so plan from the air pressure you actually have: pressure scales by the 23:1 ratio (derived reading).

Match the manifold and the tools to the pump: the four-station DO3 manifold takes standard DO3 valves, and the pump supplies about 2000 to 3000 psi class circuits, not the 10,000 psi class used by bolting tools. Check air supply capacity against the 24 scfm consumption figure before choosing a compressor.

Installation and operation notes

The only manual for this model on the Enerpac page is the repair parts sheet, which opens with a warning to relieve hydraulic pressure and disconnect the air supply hose before any maintenance or repair. It carries torque guidance: apply Teflon tape to the gauge thread and tighten 1.5 to 3 turns past hand tight (34 Nm maximum), and 8 to 10 Nm [6 to 8 ft-lbs] on the manifold screws.

The sheet splits the pump into nine assemblies: gauge, manifold and valve station, oil fill plug, pump assembly, oil filter, shuttle valve, air on-off switch assembly, filter and regulator, and the on-off switch. Pneumatic fittings are not included with a new filter regulator or air switch. For pump element seals the sheet refers to document L4241.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

General uses for an air-driven pump are small hydraulic presses, clamping and test circuits, hydrotest rigs and intermittent actuation where compressed air is available on site. The air supply makes it a candidate where a spark-producing electric motor is unwelcome, but Enerpac gives no hazardous-area approval for this model, so check with the manufacturer if that matters.

Selection and installation notes

An air-driven hydraulic pump needs a clean, dry compressed air supply with the pressure and flow the data sheet requires, a filter and regulator on the air line and hydraulic hoses and fittings rated above the working pressure. Fill the reservoir with the oil grade the maker names, bleed the air from the system, check the relief valve setting and keep the pump on a stable base. Check the oil level and hoses regularly.
