ComAp InteliGen 1000 SC Generator Synchronizer and Load Sharing Controller

Description

A paralleling controller driven by panel switches or a system PLC

The ComAp InteliGen 1000 SC is a paralleling controller for synchronisation as well as load and VAr control. It is intended for applications where the system is driven either from panel switches or from an upper-level device such as a plant PLC, and it can also read engine-specific values from an engine ECU and provide generator protections.

The SC variant concentrates on synchronising, load sharing and protection, which the datasheet says keeps engineering and commissioning times down. Control from the upper level can be via binary signals or Modbus RTU/TCP. CAN FD lets up to 64 gen-set, mains and tie controllers cooperate, and the AC accuracy supports primary frequency control and demand-response projects.

What the controller protects against

The ANSI list includes reverse power (32R), excitation loss (40), undercurrent, current and voltage unbalance, overcurrent and earth fault, temperature monitoring and over and under frequency. Multi-ECU support communicates with more than one J1939 device, such as engine ECUs and digital AVRs, and a CAN bus logger helps troubleshooting. Other listed features are a large built-in PLC interpreter, user-defined protections, inter-controller communication and AirGate 2.0 and WebSupervisor monitoring.

Choosing the SC version

Order the SC when a PLC or switch panel handles start and stop and the controller must only synchronise and share load. If the controller itself must run the complete gen-set sequence, the standard ComAp InteliGen 1000 gen-set controller is the model. Check CAN bus redundancy and hot-swap needs, which require a software key, and confirm the voltage regulator and governor interface type (voltage, current or PWM) with the AVR and governor makers before wiring.

How the ComAp InteliGen 1000 SC IG31000SCBB works

The controller reads the generator and the bus or mains voltage. Before the generator breaker closes, it adjusts the engine speed and the generator voltage until the two sides match in frequency, voltage and phase angle. After the breaker closes, it shares real and reactive power with the other sets. An upper-level PLC can give it commands over binary signals or Modbus. It also guards the generator with its protection functions.

Where the IG31000SCBB is used

  • Parallel gen-set plants
  • Sets that run alongside the mains
  • Plants with a supervisory PLC
  • Demand-response projects
  • Systems with up to 64 controllers on CAN FD

Selection checklist for the IG31000SCBB

  • Role: synchronizer and load sharing
  • Supply of 8 to 36 V DC
  • Generator and mains voltage level
  • Current input of 1 A or 5 A
  • Binary and analogue channel count
  • Governor and regulator output type
  • Communication links needed

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the IG31000SCBB

Mount the controller in the panel and fuse the supply at 8 A. Wire the voltage and current inputs with the correct phase order. Connect the governor and regulator outputs and set their type. Set up the CAN FD link to the other controllers. Test the synchronising with the breaker open before closing on the bus.

About brand

ComAp is a Czech manufacturer of control systems for gen-sets and other power generation equipment, founded by three friends in 1991 and headquartered in Prague. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes ComAp InteliLite, InteliGen and InteliSys controllers for standby generators, paralleling plants and gas gen-set projects.

ComAp gen-set controllers

The ComAp range covers single gen-set controllers such as InteliLite 4, paralleling controllers such as InteliGen and InteliSys, engine controllers, microgrid and battery storage controllers, remote displays, communication modules and the WebSupervisor monitoring tool. ComAp datasheets give the order code, the supported plug-in modules and the extension modules for each controller.

Ordering ComAp controllers
