ComAp InteliGen 500 G2 Paralleling Gen-Set Controller

Description

Advanced paralleling controller with a 5 in colour display

The ComAp InteliGen 500 G2 is a paralleling controller for advanced and more complex diesel gen-set applications, supporting single or multiple sets in grid-tied or island operation. ComAp names it the direct successor of the InteliGen 500, InteliGen NT GC and InteliGen NTC GC controllers, and it adds a 5 in colour TFT display, an on-board Ethernet port and Stage V and Tier 4 Final readiness by default.

Features listed by ComAp include start-up synchronisation to shorten the start sequence, multi-ECU communication with engine ECUs and digital AVRs, dynamic spinning reserve, forced values, a large PLC interpreter and cooperation with up to 32 gen-set, mains and tie controllers. Several functions are extended features that need a software key.

Displays, modules and extended features

The two plug-in slots take CM-RS232-485 (CM223248XBX), CM2-4G-GPS (CM24GGPSXBX), CM3-Ethernet (CM3ETHERXBX) and EM-BIO8-EFCP (EM2BIO8EXBX). External displays listed are InteliVision 5.2 (RD2IV5BXBAA), InteliVision 10Touch (RD1IV10TBPF), InteliVision 13Touch (RD1IV13TBME) and InteliVision 18Touch G2 (RD2IV18TBPE). CAN modules include Inteli AIN8, Inteli IO8/8, IGS-PTM, Inteli AIN8TC, Inteli AIO9/1, IGL-RA15, and the I-CR and I-CR-R repeater and redundancy modules.

Extended features that require a key are the IG500 G2 Suite (SKEFSUITE01) with larger PLC capacity and shared signals over CAN, Modbus Client for third-party devices (SKMODBCLI01) and PV Control for small hybrid microgrid sites with a grid connection, one gen-set and PV inverters (SKEFPVCTRLX).

Selection and ordering

Compared with the InteliGen4 200, this model adds the larger colour display, Ethernet on board and ten user accounts. The InteliGen 1000 goes further, with grid-code compliance for switchgear-level projects. State in the enquiry which extended features are needed, because they are separate keys, along with the engine ECU, AVR and governor, the number of units and the display choice. How the ComAp IG4500XXBAA controller works

The IG4500XXBAA is the order code of the InteliGen 500 G2 controller. It measures the generator and mains voltage and current, and it controls the engine and the generator breaker. During start-up it can synchronise the generator before the engine reaches full speed, which shortens the start time. The controller talks to engine ECUs and digital AVRs, shares the load between sets over the CAN bus and can work with up to 32 gen-set, mains and tie controllers. A PLC interpreter handles custom logic.

Where the ComAp IG4500XXBAA is used

  • Parallel gen-sets in island operation
  • Grid-tied sets
  • Standby power plants for data centres
  • Industrial power plants
  • Sets with electronic engine controllers

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for IG4500XXBAA

Fit the controller in the panel door with the IP65 front out. Supply it with 8 to 36 V DC, and wire the voltage and current inputs, the binary inputs and outputs and the CAN buses. Load the configuration from the PC through the USB port. Test the protections and the synchronising on a dry run. Use the 10 user accounts to give each person only the rights needed.

About brand

ComAp is a Czech manufacturer of control systems for gen-sets and other power generation equipment, founded by three friends in 1991 and headquartered in Prague. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes ComAp InteliLite, InteliGen and InteliSys controllers for standby generators, paralleling plants and gas gen-set projects.

ComAp gen-set controllers

The ComAp range covers single gen-set controllers such as InteliLite 4, paralleling controllers such as InteliGen and InteliSys, engine controllers, microgrid and battery storage controllers, remote displays, communication modules and the WebSupervisor monitoring tool. ComAp datasheets give the order code, the supported plug-in modules and the extension modules for each controller.

Ordering ComAp controllers

Send the full order code, including any suffix for a low-temperature version, together with the engine make, the AVR and governor type and the communication module required. Each ComAp page here links the manufacturer datasheet so the selection can be checked before a quotation is issued.
