ComAp InteliGen NT BaseBox Gen-Set Controller

Description

A DIN-rail gen-set controller for standby and paralleling plants

The ComAp InteliGen NT BaseBox (order code IG-NT-BB) is a comprehensive controller for single or multiple gen-sets running in standby or parallel mode. It has no display of its own: it is designed to be used with a detachable colour InteliVision 5 or InteliVision 8 display, and it can be fitted on a DIN rail or, together with an InteliVision display, in a panel door.

The datasheet lists load sharing and VAr sharing over CAN, virtual shared inputs and outputs, an advanced power management function and customisable load control in parallel to the mains. Single or multiple sets can run in island mode or in parallel to the mains with an automatic back-up function. Support for engines with an electronic control unit is included, together with an internal PLC, timers and force values. The datasheet was issued on 6/24/2020 for hardware version 2.0 and software version 3.1.0.

The unit supports ANSI functions including 25 synchro-check, 27/59 under and over voltage, 32R reverse power, 40 excitation loss, 50/51 overcurrent, 81O/81U frequency and 81R ROCOF.

Selection and ordering notes

Choose the display together with the controller, because the BaseBox cannot be operated locally without one. Send the engine make and ECU type, the AVR and speed governor interface, the number of sets in the paralleling group and the required communication. For newer projects ComAp also offers later controllers; see for example the published ComAp InteliGen4 200 paralleling controller. Related controllers are grouped in Diesel Generator Spare Parts.

How the ComAp IG-NT-BB works

The IG-NT-BB is the controller that watches and runs a generator set. It reads generator and mains voltage and current, engine speed from a pick-up, and sensor values on its analog inputs. From these it decides when to start the engine, close the breaker, share load with other sets and stop on a fault. Outputs drive the starter, fuel valve and breakers, and PWM or analog outputs trim the speed governor and the voltage regulator. A CAN link ties sets together for load sharing. A detachable InteliVision display gives the operator a screen.

Selection checklist for the ComAp IG-NT-BB (IG-NT-BB)

  • Single set or several sets
  • InteliVision 5 or InteliVision 8 display
  • DIN rail or door mounting
  • Binary inputs and outputs needed
  • Governor and regulator interface

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the IG-NT-BB

Mount the unit on a DIN rail and wire the voltage and current inputs through fuses and transformers with the right polarity. Connect the engine signals and the breaker outputs. Link the display to the display port and the sets to each other on the CAN bus. Load the configuration, set the nominal values and run test starts without load before live operation.

About brand

ComAp is a Czech manufacturer of control systems for gen-sets and other power generation equipment, founded by three friends in 1991 and headquartered in Prague. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes ComAp InteliLite, InteliGen and InteliSys controllers for standby generators, paralleling plants and gas gen-set projects.

ComAp gen-set controllers

The ComAp range covers single gen-set controllers such as InteliLite 4, paralleling controllers such as InteliGen and InteliSys, engine controllers, microgrid and battery storage controllers, remote displays, communication modules and the WebSupervisor monitoring tool. ComAp datasheets give the order code, the supported plug-in modules and the extension modules for each controller.

Ordering ComAp controllers

Send the full order code, including any suffix for a low-temperature version, together with the engine make, the AVR and governor type and the communication module required. Each ComAp page here links the manufacturer datasheet so the selection can be checked before a quotation is issued.
