The ComAp InteliMains 510 is a mains supervision controller used to synchronise a group of gen-sets to the mains or utility, or for bus-tie breaker operation. It is aimed at switchgear and at advanced, more complex applications, and gives the operator a built-in 5 inch colour TFT display (800 x 480 px) in a panel-door format.

One hardware platform covers three applications and lets a project switch easily between MCB, MGCB and BTB. Signals are shared over the CAN bus across a group of control units, so installations can cooperate with up to 32 gen-set, mains and tie controllers. A built-in PLC interpreter, user-defined protections and setpoints, and ten user accounts with individual roles support project-specific logic and access control.

Protection and functions

The ANSI function list includes synchronising check (25), overload (32P), undervoltage and overvoltage, power factor (55), vector shift (78), speed and frequency matching, breaker control and over and under frequency functions. Cyber security follows ISA 62443 level 2 to 3. Remote access uses AirGate 2.0, so there is no need to know the asset IP address. Plug-in slots take 4G and GPS, an extra Ethernet port, RS232/485 or additional binary I/O, while USB host and device, CAN, RS485 and Ethernet ports are built in. Load and VAr sharing and power management are compatible with other ComAp solutions.

Where it fits

Use the 510 for switchgear with a modest number of controllers and a front-panel display. Larger systems needing hot-swap redundancy or CAN FD for 64 units belong with the InteliMains 1010. The depth behind the panel depends on the plug-in module fitted, from 47 mm upward.

How the ComAp InteliMains 510 IM4510XXBAA works

The controller watches the mains or utility supply and the generator bus. It measures voltage and frequency on both sides and decides when it is safe to close the breaker. When a group of gen-sets must be synchronised to the mains, it checks the synchronising conditions first. Through the CAN bus it shares signals with other controllers, so several units act together.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the IM4510XXBAA

Mount the controller in the panel door using the cut-out size. Wire the supply with the 5 A fuse, then the voltage and current inputs. Set the application, the setpoints and the user accounts. Test the breaker outputs and the CAN link before the first synchronisation. Keep a copy of the configuration file.
