Solenoid Valve - Seven Star LLC

Solenoid Valves

Solenoid valves open, close or redirect a flow when an electric coil is energized, which makes them the standard interface between a control system and a fluid line or pneumatic actuator. Seven Star LLC supplies solenoid valves in Oman from Parker, DUNGS, ASCO, Norgren and Emerson, among others. The 33 listed items cover general purpose valves for air, water and oil, pilot valves for actuators, gas safety valves for burners, hydraulic directional valves and refrigerant valves.

Solenoid valve types in this category

Two-way valves such as the ASCO 8210 Series and the Parker 2/2-way valves simply shut off or release a line. Three-way and 5/2-way valves, for example Norgren pneumatic valves, pilot single-acting and double-acting actuators and cylinders. DUNGS supplies the gas side: safety solenoid valves, double solenoid valves and GasMultiBloc units that combine regulator and safety valves for burner gas trains. The Duplomatic DS3 is a hydraulic directional control valve with the ISO 4401-03 mounting interface. Valves from Magnet-Schultz, SMC, Danfoss, Copeland and ALSTOM complete the listing, including refrigerant valves and equipment-specific spare parts.

Direct-acting or pilot-operated: selection points

A direct-acting valve is moved by the coil alone and works from zero pressure, but orifice size and pressure are limited by coil force. A pilot-operated valve uses line pressure to move the main seal, so a small coil can switch a large flow, though it needs a minimum pressure differential to operate. Beyond that, define the function (normally closed, normally open or universal), port size and thread, flow coefficient, body and seal materials for the fluid, and the coil voltage and frequency. Dirty or viscous fluids can block pilot passages, which favors direct-acting or externally piloted designs.

Coils and approvals for hazardous areas and gas duty

For classified areas the coil and its enclosure carry the explosion protection: flameproof, encapsulated or intrinsically safe, with ATEX or IECEx certification for the zone and gas group. Automatic gas shut-off valves for burners are covered by EN 161 in Europe. Solenoid valves in safety instrumented functions are often requested with SIL documentation from the manufacturer.

What we need for a solenoid valve quotation

Send the complete valve code and the coil code, which are often separate. If the nameplate is unreadable, give the fluid, pressure range, port size, number of ways and positions, normally open or closed, seal material, coil voltage and the area classification. We serve buyers across the GCC and check each code against the manufacturer documentation.

What to include in your inquiry

These details let us quote the right item the first time.

  • Port size and function (2/2, 3/2, 5/2)
  • Coil voltage
  • Medium and operating pressure
  • Body and seal material
  • Hazardous-area approval, if required

Missing some of them? Send what you have. A nameplate photo or an old part number is enough to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a pilot-operated solenoid valve fail to open at low pressure?
A pilot-operated solenoid valve relies on the pressure difference between inlet and outlet to lift its diaphragm or piston. Below the minimum differential stated on the datasheet, the main seat does not open fully, or does not open at all. For gravity-fed tanks, drain lines, vacuum and closed circuits with little differential, choose a direct-acting or an assisted-lift (zero differential) valve.
Can I replace only the coil of a solenoid valve?
Often yes, provided the new coil belongs to the same valve series and matches the voltage, frequency, power rating and enclosure or protection type of the original. A coil from a different series may fit over the core tube but produce the wrong force and overheat. For hazardous-area valves the coil and valve are approved as a combination, so use the manufacturer's listed pairing.
What is the difference between an AC coil and a DC coil?
An AC coil draws a high inrush current that falls once the plunger seats, so it gives strong pull-in force, but it can hum and will burn out if the plunger sticks open. A DC coil draws a constant current, runs quietly and tolerates a stalled plunger, at the cost of lower force for the same size. Coils are not interchangeable between AC and DC.
Do I need a 3/2-way or a 5/2-way solenoid valve for my actuator?
A 3/2-way valve has three ports and two positions: it pressurizes or vents one chamber, which is what a spring-return (single-acting) actuator needs. A 5/2-way valve has five ports and switches pressure between two chambers while venting the other, which suits double-acting actuators and cylinders. Many actuator pilot valves mount directly on the NAMUR interface of the actuator.
How do you identify a replacement for an obsolete solenoid valve?
Send every marking on the valve body and coil, with photos if possible. We check the code against the manufacturer documentation and, where the model is discontinued, propose the manufacturer's successor. The points to confirm are port size and thread, orifice, pressure range, seal material, coil voltage and any approval the original carried. For burner gas valves the approval must be equivalent.
