Proceq Silver Schmidt OS8200 Optical Rebound Hammer

Description

An optical rebound hammer that reports concrete strength to an app in minutes

The Silver Schmidt OS8200 is Proceq’s connected rebound hammer for estimating the compressive strength and uniformity of concrete. Instead of the classic mechanical rebound value it uses optical rebound-velocity sensing, a quotient that Proceq says is independent of the impact angle, so a test overhead or on a wall needs no angle correction. The hammer pairs over Bluetooth with an iOS or Android phone that is not included, where the Schmidt Live app stores the series, applies conversion curves and builds reports.

Two hammer types are offered. The type N has an impact energy of 2.207 Nm and covers normal and high strength concrete from 10 to 100 MPa, and up to 120 MPa for ultra-high performance concrete as printed in the flyer. The type L has 0.735 Nm and, with the optional mushroom plunger, is intended for fresh and low strength concrete of 5 to 30 MPa.

Features printed in the datasheet

  • Optical rebound velocity quotient technology, impact angle independent
  • Voice read-out of each impact on iOS, logbook with geolocation, audio, image and text notes
  • Series statistics and single series reporting as PDF or CSV
  • Test-region reporting with uniformity report and EN 13791 characteristic strength report
  • Cloud synchronization and cloud-based report generation
  • Built-in and user-defined conversion curves, form factor and carbonation correction
  • Removable AAA battery, flight-safe, more than 20000 impacts per charge

Selecting type N or L and the accessories

Proceq lists four reference variants on the product page. Choose the hammer energy by the concrete you will test, and decide whether you need the printer.

Code position Options
OS8200 N Reference 341 50 000: type N hammer, rechargeable AAA battery, Micro-USB cable, grinding stone and set items
OS8200 Print N Reference 341 52 000: as above with the Bluetooth printer
OS8200 L Reference 341 51 000: type L hammer for low strength and fresh concrete
OS8200 Print L Reference 341 53 000: type L with printer
Portable anvil 34101401, for on-site verification as recommended by EN 12504-2
Testing anvil 34110400, for regular calibration checks
Mushroom plunger 34190005, for the type L on fresh or low strength concrete
Bluetooth printer set 34001067, usable with OS8000, OS8200, PS8000 and RS8000

Installation and operating notes

Verify the hammer on the anvil before a test campaign. The app reminds the user when a verification check is due and guides the procedure, and Proceq recommends the anvil check described in EN 12504-2.

Proceq warns that no single correlation curve fits every concrete. Unless a standard supplies a curve, calibrate the hammer on the concrete under test with a custom materials curve; the product page suggests the lower 10th percentile curve or the EN 13791 screening test as a conservative estimate.

The phone is not supplied; check that your device is supported by the app.

Concrete assessment in GCC projects

Rebound testing is used to compare the strength of columns, slabs and precast elements across a structure, and to find weaker zones before coring. In GCC construction the same hammer serves building, bridge, tank foundation and marine structure inspection.

Rebound values describe the near-surface zone and depend on surface carbonation, moisture and age, so the estimate supplements and does not replace core testing where a specification demands it. This is general engineering guidance.

About brand

Proceq is a Swiss maker of non-destructive testing and measurement instruments for concrete and other construction materials, founded in 1954 and based in Schwerzenbach, Switzerland. It is part of Screening Eagle Technologies. Its catalogue covers rebound hammers, portable hardness testers, ultrasonic pulse velocity and pulse echo instruments, cover meters, resistivity meters and pull-off adhesion testers.

Instruments for concrete and structure assessment

Proceq documentation describes uses such as estimating concrete strength with rebound hammers, mapping rebar cover, testing pile integrity, finding voids and delaminations with ultrasound, measuring concrete resistivity and checking coating adhesion. Many current instruments pair a sensor with an iPad or smartphone app, and the datasheets state ranges, accuracy and applicable standards such as EN 12504 and ASTM C1383.

Proceq instruments from Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC in Muscat sources Proceq instruments for construction, quality control and inspection work in Oman and the GCC. The manufacturer manual or datasheet is supplied with each product page so the model, range, accessories and standards can be checked before an enquiry is sent.
