Clippard E2S10F-4W024 Media Isolation Solenoid Valve, 24 VDC

Description

The Clippard E2S10F-4W024 is a compact 10 mm, 2-way normally-closed media isolation valve. A glass-filled nylon body and an EPDM diaphragm keep the actuating mechanism out of the flow path, so the fluid only touches nylon and EPDM. The code decodes with the data sheet table as orifice and wattage F-4 (0.05 inch, 1.2 mm, 2.0 W, 30 l/min at 36 psig) on a 24 VDC coil.

Isolating aggressive media from the coil

In a conventional miniature solenoid valve the fluid passes the armature, spring and seat. In the E2S the diaphragm separates actuation from flow, which is why Clippard recommends it for dispensing a wide range of aggressive gases and liquids where a compact electronically-controlled valve with minimal back pressure is wanted. The listed applications are printing equipment, medical diagnostic devices, dental equipment, fermentation, water treatment and dispensing.

The function is monodirectional: the data sheet states there must always be less than 2 psig (0.1 bar) of back pressure on the outlet port for the valve to work properly, so do not use it where outlet pressure can exceed inlet.

Choosing the E2S variant

The ordering string is E2S10, orifice and wattage, W, then voltage. C-2 is 0.03 inch (0.8 mm) at 1.3 W with 15 l/min at 36 psig; F-4 is 0.05 inch at 2.0 W with 30 l/min at 36 psig; H-4 is 0.06 inch (1.4 mm) at 2.0 W with 18 l/min at 15 psig; J-5 is 0.06 inch (1.6 mm) at 2.8 W with 22 l/min at 15 psig. Voltage 012 is 12 VDC and 024 is 24 VDC. Pick F-4 for the highest flow at the full 36 psig; the H and J types trade pressure for orifice size. Customisation options listed include voltage, power, electrical connector, IP protection, pressure and silent operation.

Mounting and operating guidance

The valve is fixed with two M2 screws to a subbase whose pneumatic interface is drawn in the data sheet, or to one of the listed manifolds. Keep fluids compatible with nylon and EPDM, stay inside 14 to 122 F, and use clean, dry air if the valve may see temperatures under freezing. The coil can run up to 311 F, but the fluid limit is the lower 122 F figure, so do not use this valve for hot media.

Where it fits

Small fluid-handling modules, analyser reagent lines, desalination and water-treatment dosing panels and laboratory automation are practical uses. In Gulf plants the 122 F fluid limit and the 36 psig ceiling matter: shade the valve from direct sun on outdoor skids and do not specify it for pressurised process lines. No hazardous-area rating is printed in the data sheet. For larger flows see the Solenoid Valves range.

E2S coil options compared

All four E2S orifice codes share a 14 to 122 F fluid range, a 6 ms response time, EPDM wetted seals and wire-lead connection, so the choice is purely hydraulic. C-2 uses 1.3 W and passes 15 l/min at 36 psig through a 0.8 mm orifice; F-4 uses 2.0 W for 30 l/min at 36 psig through 1.2 mm; H-4 uses 2.0 W for 18 l/min at only 15 psig through 1.4 mm; J-5 draws 2.8 W for 22 l/min at 15 psig through 1.6 mm. A designer limited to low supply pressure therefore reaches for H-4 or J-5, while the F-4 chosen here gives the highest flow at the full 36 psig rating for the lowest power of the two larger-flow options. Clippard also offers customised voltage, power, connectors, IP protection and silent operation, which are quoted case by case.

E2S10F-4W024 questions

What does the F-4 in E2S10F-4W024 mean?

The data sheet table lists F-4 as a 0.05 inch (1.2 mm) orifice at 2.0 W giving 30 l/min at 36 psig.

Which media touch the valve?

Only glass-filled nylon and EPDM are wetted, because the diaphragm isolates the actuator.

Can it be used with back pressure on the outlet?

The outlet back pressure must always stay under 2 psig (0.1 bar) for correct operation.

What is its response time?

6 ms.

What temperature range does it have?

14 to 122 F (-10 to 50 C), with clean dry air required below 32 F.

Using it in Oman and the GCC

Media isolation valves are used in the region in medical, laboratory and analytical instruments, water treatment and dosing equipment, and beverage or food machines, where the fluid must not touch the actuating mechanism. Check that nylon and EPDM are compatible with the fluid, including cleaning agents and disinfectants, and that the operating pressure and temperature stay within the datasheet values. Use a filter upstream where particles may be present, and keep the valve within the stated ambient temperature in hot equipment.

Record the part number and settings of each valve so spares can be ordered quickly.

Keep one spare valve for critical equipment.

About brand

Clippard is a family-owned American manufacturer of miniature pneumatic and fluid control components, based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company traces its start to 1941, when Leonard Clippard began making coils at home, and introduced its miniature regulator in 1962. Today its catalogue covers regulators, electronic and mechanical valves, isolation and pinch valves, proportional valves and electronic pressure controls.

Clippard product families

Regulators include the MAR-1 miniature regulator and the DR-2 precision regulator. The EV series spider valve uses one moving part for long life and low power, while the E2S and NPV series isolate fluids from the actuator. Proportional control is covered by the EVP and SCPV valves and by the Cordis electronic pressure controller, and needle and check valves such as the GNV and JPC series complete the range.

Where Clippard components are used

Clippard data sheets name laboratory automation, medical and diagnostic devices, analytical instruments, dispensing, water treatment and industrial automation. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and lists Clippard components for OEMs and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.
