Brand:

Raytec VAR2-IPPOE-i8-1 VARIO2 iP PoE i8 IR Network Illuminator

Description

VAR2-IPPOE-i8-1 is the Raytec VARIO2 iP PoE i8 network illuminator: an 850 nm infra-red CCTV light with 24 LEDs, up to 350 m range, powered from 24 V DC or 4-pair 802.3bt PoE and controlled over IP through a built-in web interface.

An IP-controlled infra-red light for long perimeter runs

The VARIO2 IP PoE range is Raytec’s dedicated IP lighting family. Each unit has its own network address, a built-in web interface and an API, so it can be switched, dimmed and monitored from a VMS, a building system or an access control platform. The i8 sits in the middle of the range, between the i6 (200 m) and the i16 (500 m), and the datasheet gives it a maximum distance of 350 m.

Beam angle is set by the VARIO interchangeable lens system. The standard pack includes a 10 degree circular lens and 35 x 10 and 60 x 25 degree elliptical lenses, with the 35 x 10 lens fitted as standard, and 80 x 30 and 120 x 50 degree lenses are optional. Hot-spot Reduction Technology gives an elliptical, diffused beam that avoids overexposing the foreground.

Key features as printed in the datasheet

  • PoE 4-pair IEEE 802.3bt (60 W) or 24 V DC input; HTTPS with ECDSA 256-bit keys.
  • Power control from 20 to 100 percent, a 110 percent boost for 10 seconds, and deterrent flashing with three patterns and three speeds.
  • Photocell on/off, timers, soft start, group control for up to 16 units and administrator and user passwords.
  • Lifetime diagnostics and health monitoring; configurable external output and telemetry input (volt-free or TTL).
  • 5 year warranty and an expected useful life above 10 years, as printed by Raytec.

Reading the VAR2-IPPOE code and choosing the size

The code reads VAR2 (VARIO2), IPPOE (IP PoE), i8 (24-LED size, 850 nm) and -1 (revision as listed). The datasheet also lists a 940 nm variant, VAR2-IPPOE-i8-1-c, and states that distances for it are available from Raytec. Neighbouring sizes are i4 (144 m), i6 (200 m) and i16 (500 m on DC, 420 m on PoE).

Optional lenses are VAR-i8-LENS-8030 and VAR-i8-LENS-12050. For DC operation the datasheet shows PSU-VAR2-50W-2, PSU-VAR2-100W-3 and PSU-VAR2-150W-3 for powering groups of VARIO illuminators. Confirm the lens, wavelength and power method before ordering.

Installation, commissioning and network notes

Raytec states that the illuminator needs a Windows PC with network access and a modern web browser for set-up. A fixed IP address, name and group can be assigned in the interface, and settings can be restored to factory defaults or the unit restarted from the same page. Supported protocols include HTTP, with Local and VMS operating modes, and ping command functionality.

The datasheet footnote says the PoE detection resistance is single signature 24.9 k and 12.5 k and asks users to contact Raytec for more information, so check the PoE switch or injector class for 4-pair 802.3bt before purchase. An installation guide, quick start guide, HTTP API command summary and the universal bracket summary are published on the Raytec page.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Network IR lighting suits fence lines, tank farm perimeters, port and quay areas, pipeline stations, substations and car parks where cameras need covert illumination at night. The -50 to +50 °C range and IP66 rating cover Gulf summers, but the datasheet does not give salt-spray or hazardous-area ratings for this model; for hazardous locations see the Zone 1 SPARTAN range.

Selection and installation notes

An infra-red illuminator is selected from the camera, the distance and the width of the scene. Match the beam angle to the camera field of view, mount it close to the camera on a stable bracket, keep the lens clear of foliage and glass reflections, check the power supply voltage under load and set the light level in the dark, not in daylight. Camera and illuminator should be aimed together at commissioning.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.

Compatible accessories and related items

Optional lenses, the VARIO universal bracket (wall and pole versions) and the PSU-VAR2 power supplies are listed in the datasheet. Related Raytec lighting is in the CCTV and security category.
