Caleffi 132512 3/4 Inch Balancing Valve with Flow Meter

Description

The 132512 is the 3/4 inch threaded balancing valve with built-in flow meter from the Caleffi 132 series. Instead of a differential pressure gauge and a reference chart, it shows the regulated flow directly on a graduated scale in litres per minute, so a commissioning engineer can set a fan coil, a riser or an air-handling coil to its design flow with one wrench and a pull on the flow meter ring.

Balancing a hydronic circuit without a gauge

Unbalanced circuits starve the far terminals and over-serve the near ones: pumps leave their efficient zone, flow speeds rise and noise and erosion follow, as the datasheet explains in its list of benefits of balanced circuits. The 132 series puts a flow meter in a bypass on the valve body that is closed during normal operation. When the obturator ring is pulled, a metal sphere rises in a transparent guide against a printed scale; the valve is adjusted with the control stem until the sphere sits on the design value, and the ring is released so the internal spring and EPDM seal close the measuring circuit again.

Key features from the datasheet

  • Direct reading of flow rate in l/min on a graduated scale, accuracy ±10 % including glycol mixtures up to 50 %
  • Flow meter bypass closes automatically after use; the operating ring has low thermal conductivity to avoid burns on hot systems
  • Magnetic indicator: the float and magnet keep the indicating sphere out of the medium, so the scale stays clean
  • Full open or fully closed with a 90 degree turn of the control stem; a slot on the obturator stem shows the valve state
  • Supplied with pre-formed closed-cell PE-X shell insulation (threaded version) that is vapour-tight and usable on chilled water
  • Patent pending construction, per the datasheet

Selection and ordering guide

Seven threaded sizes cover flows from 2 to 200 l/min; the flanged version (DN 65, 80, 100) reads in m³/h. Choose the size whose flow scale brackets the design flow comfortably in the middle of the range.

Code Size Flow l/min Kv m³/h Mass
132402 1/2″ 2-7 0.9 0.80 kg
132512 3/4″ 5-13 2.5 0.74 kg
132522 3/4″ 7-28 5.4 0.74 kg
132602 1″ 10-40 7.2 0.96 kg
132702 1 1/4″ 20-70 13.1 1.19 kg
132802 1 1/2″ 30-120 27.8 1.47 kg
132902 2″ 50-200 46.4 2.00 kg

Flanged codes 132060, 132080 and 132100 (DN 65, 80, 100) use cast iron GJL 250 bodies and read 6-24, 8-32 and 12-48 m³/h.

Installation and balancing procedure

  • Fit on the circuit return pipe where possible, in any position (horizontal or vertical), following the flow arrow on the body, with access left for the ring, stem and scale.
  • Install straight pipe lengths upstream and downstream to keep the reading accurate: the datasheet shows 5 diameters before and 10 diameters after in its flow-measurement diagram.
  • Pull the obturator ring to open the flow meter, adjust the control stem with the wrench until the sphere reaches the reference mark, then release the ring.
  • Use the movable indicator on the scale to record the setting so later checks can compare it.
  • For liquids denser than water the datasheet gives Δp real = Δp reference × density; the flow reading stays within ±10 % up to 50 % glycol.

Applications in Gulf cooling and heating systems

District-cooling energy stations, hotel and hospital chilled-water risers, and fan-coil branches in Oman and the GCC all depend on balanced flow. The pre-formed insulation is rated for chilled water, which matters because condensation on an uninsulated valve body is common in humid coastal cities. The 132 series is not drinking-water equipment (the certification line in the datasheet is blank), so keep it to closed heating and cooling circuits, and use it on sanitary circuits only after confirming suitability with the manufacturer.

Related items and system context

The datasheet lists application diagrams: flow adjustment to each riser, to each terminal, in zone branches with three-way valves, in air-conditioning unit circuits, in bypass lines of outside-compensated regulation and in sanitary water distribution. The datasheet recommends placing the valve preferably on the circuit return pipe, and lists the threaded version with its insulation shell as the form for both hot and chilled water.

Frequently asked questions

How does the 132512 show flow rate?

A metal sphere in a transparent guide indicates flow on a graduated scale in litres per minute; the flow meter sits in a bypass that is opened by pulling a ring.

What is the flow range of this 3/4 inch version?
