SICK SW50 High-Temperature Glass Reflector

Description

SW50 is a SICK high-temperature reflector (part no. 1000131): high-temperature reflector, glass, screw connection. The data sheet lists anodised Aluminium / borosilicate glass as material, a diameter of 80 mm, screw-on mounting and an ambient operating temperature of ≤ +300 °C.

Why the SW50 reflector is built for high temperature

A reflector is the passive partner of a retro-reflective photoelectric sensor: the sensor sends a beam, the reflector returns it, and the output changes when an object interrupts the path. Ordinary plastic reflectors soften at modest temperatures, so a glass reflector in an aluminium holder is used where the light path crosses an oven, a dryer or other hot zone.

This version is catalogued by SICK in the group: special reflectors. The sensing range of the sensor you pair it with is specified against its own reference reflector, so a different reflector changes the operating reserve; confirm the range in the sensor data sheet and leave margin for dust and heat shimmer.

Type code SW50 and part number 1000131

The type SW50 is a short code for this glass reflector; the number in it should not be read as a dimension, so rely on the data sheet values. The part number 1000131 is the safe way to identify this item. Other SICK reflectors, including plastic types, have other codes and much lower temperature ratings.

Fitting and selection notes

The data sheet gives a dimensional drawing for the screw-on fixing. Keep the glass clean, because dirt cuts the returned light, and allow for thermal expansion of the holder when you tighten the screws. The temperature limit applies to the reflector, not to the sensor, which must be kept within its own limit.

Reflectors are passive, so SW50 needs no cable, power supply or set-up; it only has to sit in the beam of a compatible retro-reflective sensor. Before ordering, check four things: the temperature at the mounting point against the limit in the table, the 80 mm diameter against the beam spot of the sensor you plan to use, the screw-on fixing against your bracket, and the distance range given in that sensor data sheet. If one of these is uncertain, send the sensor type code with your RFQ so both data sheets can be compared.

Documents and quotation

For SW50 the manufacturer’s data sheet (part no. 1000131) is attached as a PDF copy; read it together with your control drawing before you commit to the order. A quotation needs only the part number, the quantity and the delivery destination; the RFQ form takes all three. Related items are listed under Automation Accessories. We suggest a last check of the output type, plug and ratings against your site documents before the order is placed; the data sheet governs.

About brand

Machine builders have relied on SICK since 1946 for the sensors that tell a controller where a part, a pallet or a person is. The company, based in Waldkirch, Germany, makes photoelectric, inductive and magnetic sensors, distance sensors and safety devices. Seven Star LLC supplies SICK sensors to maintenance teams and integrators in Oman, mostly as exact replacements identified by type code and part number.

SICK sensor families on this page

Five of the SICK families listed here are described below. The W4 miniature photoelectric sensors include the WTB4-3, a proximity sensor with background suppression. IME is the standard inductive proximity line, and the IME18 is the M18 housing size. RZT7 cylinder sensors fit T-slot pneumatic cylinders and detect the piston magnet. The DT35 belongs to the Dx35 laser distance sensors for mid-range measurement. The microScan3 is a safety laser scanner that guards hazardous zones around machines and vehicles.

Where SICK sensors are used

SICK sensors are fitted on packaging and bottling lines, conveyors, palletizers, warehouse cranes and automated guided vehicles. Safety laser scanners protect robot cells and transfer cars. In process plants, the same proximity and cylinder sensors report valve and damper positions on packaged equipment.

Ordering SICK sensors: what we need

A SICK type code such as IME18-08NPSZW2K packs the whole specification into one string: housing size, sensing range, flush or non-flush mounting, output type and connection. Each variant also has a 7-digit part number, and that number is the safest identifier. Please send:

  • Type code and part number from the sensor label, or a photo of it
  • Output type (PNP or NPN, normally open or closed) and connection (cable length or M8/M12 plug)
  • For microScan3: variant (Core or Pro), interface, protective field range, plus system plug and bracket

We check the code in SICK's documentation and tell you if the manufacturer lists a successor.
