Brand:

Fireye Phoenix 85UVF1A-1QD UV Integrated Flame Scanner

Description

A solid-state UV or IR flame scanner with automatic setup and SIL 3 certification

The Fireye Phoenix 85UVF1A-1QD belongs to the Phoenix Series 2 type 85UVF/IRF integrated flame scanners, microprocessor-based devices with a solid-state flame detection sensor and an internal flame relay with automatically set ON/OFF thresholds. No remote flame amplifier or flame switch is needed. The scanner detects the amplitude of the modulations (flame flicker) in the target flame over a wide frequency range, stores the target flame amplitudes with optimum ON/OFF criteria during setup, and selects the sensor gain automatically. It includes full self-diagnostics and electronic self-checking.

The 85UVF models detect ultraviolet emissions of 295 to 340 nm, the 85IRF models detect infrared emissions of 830 to 1100 nm, and K3 versions use an optical filter that extends sensitivity from the 310 nm range up to 500 nm for blast furnace and coke oven gas burners.

Selection and limits of use

Typical applications for the UV models include duct burners, industrial gas burners, refinery burners, low-NOx burners, waste gas units and incinerators; the IR models suit duct burners, industrial oil burners, refinery duty, waste oil units and incinerators. Because the sensors are solid state, UV is typically used on gaseous fuels but can also work on oils; Fireye advises a test to be sure of the application. Fireye does not recommend the Phoenix scanner for small pilot flames or obstructed sighting. When a Series 2 scanner replaces an older Phoenix, the mounting flange must be replaced too.

For related products see burners and gas trains and flame detection; the LAMTEC F200K flame monitoring system is a comparable UV scanner.

How the Fireye 85UVF1A-1QD works

The scanner looks at the flame through its lens. A solid-state sensor reads the UV light and its flicker. The scanner sets its own ON and OFF levels during setup. The internal flame relay then follows the flame.

About brand

Fireye is a maker of flame safeguard and burner management controls based in Derry, New Hampshire, USA.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Fireye scanners and controls for boiler and burner service in Oman and the GCC.

Fireye product series

Integrated flame scanners include the 65UV5 Simplicity UV scanner, the Phoenix 85UVF1A-1QD UV scanner and the InSight 95DSS2 and InSight S4 95S4 UV/IR scanners.

The BurnerLogiX YB110 is a burner management control.

Flame scanners detect the ultraviolet or infrared radiation of the flame and tell the burner management control whether a flame is present. UV scanners suit gas flames, while UV/IR scanners help discriminate between burners in multi-burner boilers.

The burner management control runs the start-up sequence, purge, ignition and flame supervision and shuts the fuel off if the flame fails.

Where Fireye products are used

Boilers, furnaces, heaters and thermal oxidisers burning gas or oil in plants and buildings.
