Brand:

Contrinex DW-AS-623-M18-693 Weld-Immune M18 Inductive Sensor

Description

A coated inductive sensor made for the welding cell

The Contrinex DW-AS-623-M18-693 is the M18 member of the classic weld-immune inductive range. It combines a V2A stainless steel body with a high-performance anti-spatter coating, an 8 mm embeddable sensing distance, an M12 4-pin connector and a PNP normally open output.

Contrinex positions the series as magnetic field resistant in welding applications with high repeatability and an exceptional price-performance ratio. It is a good all-round size for fixtures, clamp feedback and part-present checks on welding lines.

Selection and installation notes

The M18 body is the usual choice when the 4 mm of an M12 is too short and a full-inox sensor is not required. The datasheet gives a metal-free zone of 18 mm around the face and 60 mm in front, which matters when the sensor is flush-mounted in a steel bracket. Multiply the 8 mm by the correction factor of the target: 0.9 for copper, 1.2 for aluminum, 1.4 for brass and 0.2 for V2A stainless steel.

The maximum tightening torque is 50 Nm and repeatability is 0.4 mm. Check the supply (10 to 30 VDC), the PNP polarity of your input card and the exposure to welding current before ordering.

How the Contrinex DW-AS-623-M18-693 works

An inductive sensor makes a high-frequency magnetic field at its sensing face. When a metal part enters the field, eddy currents form in the metal and reduce the oscillation, and the electronics switch the output. In a welding cell the strong welding currents can disturb a normal sensor. The weld-immune design is built to resist these magnetic fields. The anti-spatter coating on the stainless steel body also keeps weld spatter from sticking to the sensor.

Where the DW-AS-623-M18-693 is used

  • Fixtures and clamp feedback in welding lines
  • Part-present checks in welding cells
  • Position checks on robot tooling
  • Machines with spatter and strong magnetic fields
  • Automotive body-in-white lines

Selection checklist for the DW-AS-623-M18-693

  • Sensing distance of 8 mm, embeddable in metal
  • Target material, with the correction factor
  • PNP normally open output, and the polarity of the input card
  • Supply of 10 to 30 VDC
  • M12 4-pin connector and cable
  • Coated version -693 or uncoated version -673
  • Mounting bracket and the metal-free zone
  • Ambient temperature of -25 to +70 degrees C

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Screw the sensor into the bracket and tighten the nuts to no more than 50 Nm. Keep the metal-free zone around the face, because metal in this area changes the switching distance. Use the correction factor if the target is not steel. Connect the cable with the PNP output to the right input. Watch the yellow LED while moving a target into the field. Clean the spatter coating gently and check the body for damage.

Sensor records for DW-AS-623-M18-693

Keep the position, the date of fitting and any replacement dates with the welding cell file.

Choosing the right DW-AS-623-M18-693 setting

Check the real target before fitting. The 8 mm distance applies to the standard steel target of 24 x 24 x 1 mm, and the repeat accuracy is 0.4 mm or better. Copper, aluminum and brass shorten the working distance, so leave extra margin in the fixture design.

Contrinex product series

Weld-immune inductive sensors include the DW-AS-623-M12-693, DW-AS-623-M18-693 and DW-AS-623-M30-693, which resist the strong magnetic fields of resistance welding.

IO-Link versions include the DW-AS-703-M8-697, DW-AS-703-M12-693, DW-AS-703-M18-693 and DW-AS-713-M30-693, which send switching and diagnostic data to the controller.

Weld-immune sensors have full metal housings and coatings that resist weld spatter and strong magnetic fields, so they do not switch falsely during welding. IO-Link versions allow remote configuration and diagnostics through an IO-Link master.
