DEIF CGC 400 Compact Genset Controller

Description

Compact genset controller in two variants

The DEIF CGC 400 is a microprocessor-based controller with the functions needed to protect and control a diesel engine, plus a three-phase AC voltage measuring circuit. An LCD shows all values and alarms. DEIF lists the applications as automatic engine start and stop, engine protection, breaker control, generator protection and, on one variant, automatic mains failure.

Two variants share the same unit. The CGC 412 provides engine protection, J1939 engine communication, generator and busbar protection, Modbus RS-485 and generator breaker control. The CGC 413 adds automatic mains failure logic and load takeover, with mains voltage inputs on terminals 28 to 32 and 56 to 59 that are not available on the CGC 412.

Setup, protection response and accessories

Setup is done with a password-protected PC utility software over USB, which also supports monitoring during commissioning, saving and loading settings and software updates. The settings can also be changed from the display buttons. The master language is English, and a translation function allows all texts in the unit to be changed.

With delays set to the minimum, generator protection responses for reverse power, power and overload, over-current, over and under voltage and over and under frequency are each below 400 ms, according to the data sheet. The USB cable for the PC utility (3 m, option J7) is item number 1022040065.

Selecting a CGC 400

Choose the CGC 413 where the set must start automatically on mains failure and take over the load; choose the CGC 412 for sets controlled by remote start, load-sharing schemes or where the mains is monitored elsewhere. Confirm the engine ECU and J1939 messages, the multi-input sensor types, the breaker control scheme and the cutout size before ordering, and name the variant in the quotation request. DEIF also offers the SGC and AGC families for other sizes of plant.

About brand

DEIF is a Danish, family-owned and independent manufacturer of control and protection devices for power generation, founded in a Copenhagen backyard in 1933 and now based in Skive. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes DEIF AGC, SGC and CGC genset controllers for standby plants, paralleling systems and engine-driven sets.

DEIF genset and power management controllers

DEIF describes itself as a supplier of power control solutions for decentralised power generation on land and at sea. Its genset controllers range from the compact SGC and CGC units to the AGC 150 and AGC-4 Mk II controllers, which add synchronisation and power management for plants with many gensets. DEIF data sheets state the supply range, I/O, protections and approvals of each controller.

Ordering DEIF controllers

Name the exact model and variant, the software package or option letters where they apply, the quantity and the engine make and ECU protocol. DEIF configures several controllers by variant and option, so the data sheet on each page should be checked against the project before a quotation is issued.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the CGC 412 and CGC 413?
The CGC 413 adds automatic mains failure logic and load takeover, with mains voltage inputs that the CGC 412 does not provide.
What supply range does it have?
8.0 to 35.0 V DC continuous with reverse polarity protection, and it rides through a 50 ms supply drop-out during cranking.
Which engine communication does it support?
J1939 on the CAN port, on both variants, together with a magnetic pickup or W-terminal speed input.
How is it configured?
With a password-protected PC utility software over a standard USB-B connection, or through the display push-buttons.
What is the panel cutout?
160.0 x 220.0 mm (height x width) with a tolerance of +0.4/-0.0 mm.
