Cameron NuFlo 1502 WECO Union High-Pressure Liquid Turbine Flowmeter

Description

Overview

The Cameron NuFlo 1502 is a high-pressure liquid turbine flowmeter built with 1502 WECO Union hammer union end connections, the standard connection used on oilfield treating iron. It is designed for temporary and mobile well service operations where the meter is rigged up and rigged down again and again, often in harsh conditions. A rotor turning on a tungsten carbide shaft and bearings gives the meter the strength to cope with sand-laden water, chemicals, mud and cement while keeping measurement integrity. The product line was branded Cameron by Schlumberger and is now manufactured by Sensia under the NUFLO name, with sizes from 1 in. up to 4 in.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Cameron NuFlo 1502 to well services contractors, coiled tubing and cementing crews, stimulation companies and production operators in Oman and the GCC. Our Muscat engineers help select the size, union class and rotor options for each job, and supply magnetic pickups, spare internals kits and NuFlo totalizers so complete metering spreads can be assembled.

Measurement Principle

Inside the Cameron NuFlo 1502, liquid flows through upstream flow vanes that straighten the stream and then over a bladed rotor. The rotor is made of a magnetic material while the meter body is non-magnetic, and a magnetic pickup made of a magnet and coil sits outside the bore in the same plane as the rotor. As the liquid turns the rotor at a speed directly proportional to flow velocity, each blade passing the pickup disturbs the magnetic field and induces a pulse in the coil. The resulting sine wave frequency is proportional to flow rate, and counting the pulses gives total volume. The meter calibration factor, expressed in pulses per US gallon, converts frequency into engineering units in a totalizer or flow computer.

Turbine meters are linear over a defined flow range, and the Cameron NuFlo 1502 product sheet gives the linear range for each size: for example 40 to 400 US gallons per minute for the 2 in. meter and 100 to 1,200 US gallons per minute for the 4 in. meter, based on water. For liquids with non-lubricating characteristics the linear range is limited to the upper 60 percent of rating, and liquids above 5 centistokes should be reviewed with the manufacturer. Meters can be overranged by 10 percent for short periods without significant effect, although sustained high flow shortens bearing life.

Engineering Design of the Cameron NuFlo 1502

The Cameron NuFlo 1502 body is A286 stainless steel, the flow vanes are 316L stainless steel, the rotor shaft and bearings are tungsten carbide, the magnetic pickup receptacle is 316L stainless steel and the union nut is carbon steel. Two magnetic pickup ports allow local and remote monitoring at the same time, for example a local totalizer on the meter and a second signal to a data van. The standard magnetic pickup covers minus 55 to 121 degrees Celsius, and a high-temperature pickup extends this to 232 degrees Celsius. The mating output connector is AN3106A-10SL-4S. The meter carries CSA certification for hazardous locations Class I, Groups A, B, C, D and is CE marked under the Pressure Equipment Directive.

Installation is straightforward. The Cameron NuFlo 1502 may be installed in any orientation with the arrow on the body pointing in the flow direction, and it needs straight pipe of the same nominal size for at least 10 diameters upstream and 5 diameters downstream, usually a pup joint of 1502 treating iron. Valves or chokes belong downstream. Maintenance is done by removing the retainer rings and sliding out the vanes and rotor; if any internal part is damaged the whole calibrated kit is replaced, never a single part, so accuracy is preserved.

Industrial Applications

Oman has an active well services sector supporting mature oilfields, enhanced oil recovery projects and tight gas developments across the interior concessions. The Cameron NuFlo 1502 suits the temporary metering these operations demand: high-pressure water injection trials, scale inhibitor squeeze treatments, coiled tubing cleanouts, cement and mud displacement volume monitoring, and flowback of treatment fluids after stimulation. The rugged construction of the Cameron NuFlo 1502 tolerates continual rig-up and rig-down on location, and its quick installation keeps crews moving between wells.

In practice the Cameron NuFlo 1502 is often paired with a NuFlo totalizer or flow computer so that volume and rate are recorded for the job report. Seven Star LLC supplies the Cameron NuFlo 1502 together with pickups, internals kits and electronics, and our Muscat team supports contractors in Oman and the GCC with sizing against expected pump rates and with selecting rotor options for slurries or acid.

About brand

NuFlo is an oilfield flow measurement name found on turbine flowmeters and on the readout instruments that total their output at the wellsite. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists the Cameron NuFlo MC-III EXP local flow analyzer and totalizer and a 3-inch ANSI 150 liquid turbine flowmeter assembly, and sources NuFlo meters, pickups and spare parts by part number.

Cameron NuFlo products listed here

A liquid turbine flowmeter has a rotor that spins in proportion to flow, and a magnetic pickup on the body turns each blade pass into a pulse. The MC-III EXP is the instrument that receives those pulses, applies the meter's calibration factor and shows flow rate and accumulated total at the meter. It is an explosion-proof totalizer for gas or liquid turbine meters with 4-20 mA and pulse outputs, sold today under the Sensia name. Meter and analyzer are usually bought as a pair, but each can be replaced on its own if the calibration factor is carried over.

Ordering NuFlo meters: what we need

For a turbine meter send line size, end connection and rating, liquid, flow range, pressure and temperature, and the part number or serial number from the existing meter body. For an MC-III send the model from the nameplate, power option, outputs and the area approval required. For produced water or injection water lines in the GCC, mention solids or corrosive service.
