SKF TKRT 31 Advanced Digital Tachometer

Description

Overview

SKF TKRT 31 is an advanced handheld digital tachometer that measures rotational speed, linear speed and distance using either a built-in class 2 laser or a set of contact adaptors. It is the top model of the SKF TKRT tachometer range and adds a multi-line colour backlit TFT display, a five slot memory and a full set of contact accessories to the performance of the TKRT 21. For maintenance and commissioning teams the result is a single compact instrument that can check motor speed, confirm the output speed of a gearbox, verify the belt or conveyor speed of a production line and measure lengths, all at a safe distance from the machine when the laser is used.

Seven Star LLC supplies the SKF TKRT 31 to industrial buyers in Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. Speed verification with the SKF TKRT 31 is a routine task in power stations, water and desalination plants, oil and gas facilities and manufacturing sites, and an accurate tachometer is a basic tool in every reliability toolbox. We can help you confirm the right accessories and the measurement mode you need before you place an order.

Measurement Principle

In optical mode the SKF TKRT 31 projects a visible laser spot onto a piece of reflective tape stuck to the rotating part. Each time the tape passes through the beam, the instrument detects a pulse. By counting the pulses against its internal time base the tachometer calculates revolutions per minute or frequency in hertz, and the colour display updates continuously. The published optical range is 1 to 99 999 r/min with an accuracy of plus or minus 0.01 percent of reading plus or minus 1 digit, at a measuring distance of 25 to 1 200 mm and an angle of operation of plus or minus 30 degrees.

In contact mode the operator fits a cone, a tip or a wheel to the instrument and presses it against the shaft end or the moving surface. The wheel turns at the speed of the surface and the tachometer converts this to linear speed in metres, feet or inches per minute or per second. The same wheel can be rolled along a length of material to measure distance. Contact measurement is rated up to 20 000 r/min for 36 000 seconds with an accuracy of plus or minus 0.1 percent of reading plus or minus 1 digit above 120 r/min or in the high accuracy setting, and a low speed accuracy setting is available below 120 r/min. Maximum, minimum and average speed capture allows the operator to record how a drive behaves over a measurement period.

Engineering Design of the SKF TKRT 31

The SKF TKRT 31 has a slim pistol style housing made of ABS plastic that measures 295 x 70 x 38 mm and weighs 270 g. It can be held and operated with one hand, which is useful when the technician must reach across a machine guard or stand on a ladder. Controls are direct selector switches, so the user does not need to scroll through complex menus on the plant floor. The SKF TKRT 31 colour TFT display has several lines for the speed reading, the unit, the maximum, minimum or average value and the selected mode, and it updates continuously to follow acceleration and deceleration events.

Power comes from two AA batteries, and rechargeable cells can be used. The datasheet gives a run time of about 8 hours at 20 percent display brightness with 50 percent laser on time and 50 percent Bluetooth on time, falling to about 3.5 hours at full display brightness. An auto switch off function and a low battery indicator help protect the batteries during long shifts. The case contains the SKF TKRT 31, an extension shaft, two conical tips, two wheels of different sizes, two AA batteries, reflective tape and the instructions for use, so the instrument is ready to measure as soon as it is unpacked.

Key Features of the SKF TKRT 31

The SKF TKRT 31 brings together the following practical features for speed and length measurement.

  • A built-in class 2 laser allows non-contact speed measurement at a distance of 25 to 1 200 mm from rotating machinery.
  • A wide optical range of 1 to 99 999 r/min covers slow conveyors as well as high speed spindles and fans.
  • The angle of operation of plus or minus 30 degrees makes it easier to measure where straight line access is difficult.
  • Measurement modes include r/min, Hz, metres, feet and inches per minute and per second, and a distance mode.
  • Speed capture shows the maximum, minimum or average rate over the measurement period.
  • A large colour backlit TFT display gives clear readings in poorly lit machine rooms.
  • Five memory slots store readings for later reference or for entry into a maintenance record.
  • A full set of contact adaptors, including two wheels and an extension shaft, is included in the carrying case.

Industrial Applications

A SKF TKRT 31 is useful wherever rotation speed or surface speed must be verified. In power plants and desalination stations it is used to confirm motor and pump speeds after variable speed drive commissioning, to check cooling fan speed and to verify turning gear rates. In oil and gas facilities across the Sultanate of Oman it helps confirm the output speed of gearboxes and the speed of auxiliary equipment before and after maintenance. The datasheet lists electric motors, conveyors, rotary feeders, grinders, dryers, cooling equipment, worm wheels and elevators as typical machines, and power plants, recycling, automotive, materials handling, food and beverage and paper mills among the industries served.

The SKF TKRT 31 also supports calibration and quality tasks, for example confirming the speed set point of a drive against its display, checking conveyor line speed in industrial zones such as Sohar and Salalah, and measuring the length of cable, belt or material on a reel. Technical advice from Seven Star LLC helps customers equip workshops and site crews with the SKF TKRT 31, and the same order can include the contact adaptors and reflective tape consumables needed for the job.

About brand
SKF, founded in 1907 in Gothenburg, Sweden, is best known for rolling bearings, seals and lubrication systems, and it also makes the tools maintenance crews use to mount, align and monitor rotating equipment. Seven Star LLC lists SKF bearings, maintenance tools and condition monitoring instruments and supplies them by full designation to plants and workshops in Oman.

SKF bearings and maintenance tools listed here

Four items show the spread of the range: the 6206-2RS1 deep groove ball bearing with rubber seals on both sides, the TIH 030m induction heater for mounting bearings, the TKSA 41 laser shaft alignment tool, and the Microlog Analyzer AX (CMXA 80) vibration data collector. Other SKF bearings can be quoted from the full designation.

Ordering SKF bearings and tools: what we need

An SKF bearing designation is read in three parts: the basic number, then suffixes for seals or shields, cage, clearance and tolerance. Send it complete, for example 6206-2RS1/C3, because the suffixes change the part. For tools and instruments, send the model designation and say which accessories or kits you need. If markings are worn off, give us bore, outside diameter and width in millimeters. We answer SKF spare parts inquiries from all GCC countries.
