Hydac HPT 146K-G-4000-000 OEM Pressure Transmitter, 1 to 5 V

Description

A voltage-output OEM transmitter for series machine builds

The Hydac HPT 146K-G-4000-000(PSI) (HYDAC part number 928965) belongs to the HPT 1400 series, which HYDAC describes as a robust thin-film transmitter for series applications. All wetted parts are welded stainless steel with no seal inside the sensor, and the unit weighs only 0.1 lb. This version measures 0 to 4000 psi, gives a 1 to 5 V output from an 8 to 36 V supply, has an SAE 4 male port and a Deutsch DT04-3P plug.

The 1 to 5 V signal and the Deutsch plug make it a common fit for mobile machine controllers that read analog voltage inputs.

Order code and options

HPT 146K-G-4000-000(PSI): HPT is the series, the digits 146K select the port and plug combination as listed in the catalogue, G the signal option shown here as 1 to 5 V, 4000 the range in psi and 000 the standard modification. The datasheet says the HPT 1400 is available from 0 to 16 bar up to 0 to 600 bar, with many integrated plug types and cable options, so confirm the exact digits against the datasheet.

Choosing between voltage and current outputs

A voltage output is simple to wire over short runs, but long cables pick up noise and lose accuracy, so use shielded cable and keep the supply clean. The residual ripple limit is 5 percent and current consumption is up to 25 mA. If the controller is far from the sensor, a 4 to 20 mA variant such as the HDA 8400 is usually the safer choice. Reverse polarity, overvoltage and short circuit protection are built in.

Fit a mating Deutsch socket with the right terminals and seals, as the plug rating depends on a correctly crimped, fully latched connector. State the ratiometric version in the enquiry if your controller needs it, because the E13 approval numbers in the datasheet list a separate number for ratiometric units.

If you replace an existing sensor, check the supply: this series accepts 8 to 36 V DC, which covers 12 V and 24 V vehicle systems. Check the pin assignment, with pin 1 as supply, pin 2 as signal and pin 3 as zero volts, before powering the circuit, since a miswired plug may damage the controller input.

How the HPT 146K-G-4000-000(PSI) works

Like most HYDAC pressure transmitter series, the HPT 1400 is built on a robust, long-life thin-film sensor. A strain gauge bridge is deposited directly onto a stainless steel measuring diaphragm. System pressure deflects the diaphragm slightly, the bridge resistance changes in proportion, and the integrated electronics amplify and linearise this into a voltage output. On the HPT 146K-G-4000-000(PSI) the result is a 1 to 5 V signal across the 0 to 4000 psi range, so a reading of 1 V means zero pressure and 5 V means full scale. The live zero at 1 V lets a controller detect a broken wire or a missing supply, because a healthy sensor never sends 0 V.

Because the sensor and the pressure port are welded together, there are no internal seals that could age or leak. An orifice in the pressure port helps damp pressure peaks before they reach the measuring cell.

Selection & ordering guide

  • Range: pick a range where normal working pressure sits in the upper part of the scale while pressure peaks stay below the overload rating.
  • Output: the series offers 4 – 20 mA, 0 – 5 V, 1 – 6 V, 0 – 10 V and ratiometric 0.5 – 4.5 V at 5 V supply, plus other signals on request. Match the signal to the controller input card.
  • Port: the datasheet shows G1/4 A ISO 1179-2, M14 × 1.5 and SAE 6 (9/16–18 UNF 2A) among others; this model uses the SAE 4 (7/16–20 UNF) port.
  • Plug: Deutsch DT04 2- or 3-pole, DIN 72585 3-pole, Superseal 3-pole and cable versions are shown.
  • Quantities: HYDAC states the HPT 1000/1400 OEM family is offered for minimum order quantities of 500 pieces per type, so confirm availability for single units of a given code.

Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code for the HPT 146K-G-4000-000(PSI) or suggest an equivalent HYDAC transmitter when a direct replacement is needed.

Installation & maintenance

  • Fit the transmitter on a clean, undamaged port face with the correct FKM O-ring; the datasheet gives a recommended tightening torque of 20 N·m.
  • Mount the sensor where trapped air can escape, and avoid locations directly beside fast-switching valves where spikes are highest.
  • Use a correctly crimped, fully latched Deutsch mating connector; the IP rating applies only with the mating connector fitted.
  • Route the signal cable away from high-current lines and use shielded cable for longer runs.
  • Check the zero signal (1 V) periodically with the system depressurised and compare it with a reference gauge during routine service.

About brand

HYDAC is the German hydraulics group known for hydraulic filters, accumulators and electronic pressure and temperature sensors. It was founded in 1963 in Sulzbach, Saarland, by Werner Dieter and Otmar Schön. The name comes from "hydraulic accumulator", the first product it made under licence. It is still a family company headquartered in Sulzbach.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list HYDAC filters, filter elements, accumulators, pressure transmitters and switches, and supply them for hydraulic power units, turbines, compressors and mobile machines in Oman and the GCC.

Most hydraulic failures start with dirty or wet oil. That is why a system has filters at several points: a pressure filter in front of sensitive valves, a return filter that cleans what comes back to the tank, and a breather that stops dust and humidity entering as the oil level moves. The filter element's rating (for example 3, 10 or 25 µm) and its material decide what cleanliness class the oil reaches. On HYDAC sensors, the type code also sets the pressure range, the output and the connector. For example, HDA 4445-A-400-000 is a 4-20 mA transmitter for 0-400 bar.

Where HYDAC products are used

In Oman and the GCC, HYDAC filters, accumulators and sensors are used on turbine and compressor lube oil systems, hydraulic power units, offshore and marine hydraulics, cranes, presses, steel and aluminium plants, and construction and mobile machines.
