Brand:

Hioki IR5050 5 kV High Voltage Insulation Resistance Tester

Description

A compact 5 kV insulation tester with diagnostic indexes

The Hioki IR5050 is a 5 kV insulation resistance meter in a compact, lightweight case (1.7 kg including batteries). The rotary knob selects output voltages of 250 V, 500 V, 1 kV, 2.5 kV and 5 kV, and the output can also be set in 10 V or 25 V increments up to 5.2 kV. Hioki rates the effective range up to 10 TOhm at 5000 V, with accuracy of +/-5 % rdg. +/-5 dgt. up to 50 GOhm at that voltage.

Safety and diagnostic functions are the main attraction. A test starts by pressing and holding MEASURE for one second, which helps prevent inadvertent activation of a high voltage, and the MEASURE button flashes while a high voltage is generated or discharged. When the test completes the instrument discharges the circuit automatically until the residual voltage is 30 V or less. After measurement it can show not only the insulation resistance and leakage current, but also PI (polarization index), DAR (dielectric absorption ratio) and DD (dielectric discharge) index values with pass or fail judgments, and capacitance is displayed on the hold screen. Step voltage (SV, five stages), ramp voltage, timer and comparator functions are included.

A GUARD terminal minimises the effect of surface leakage, a filter function stabilises noisy readings, an inductive noise rejection function rejects induced noise up to 3 mA, and the measurement technology supports stable readings of very small currents (minimum range 10 nA).

Applications, options and the IR5051

A 5 kV tester at this size suits routine insulation testing and trending of cables, motors, generators, transformers and switchgear. Measured values can be sent by Bluetooth to a smartphone or tablet through the optional Wireless Adapter Z3210 and the free GENNECT Cross app, where a chart can be written while the measurement is running; alternatively the DMM Communicator DT4900-01 moves logged data to a PC.

Included accessories are test leads L9850-01 (red), -02 (black, shielded) and -03 (blue), each 3 m, alligator clips L9851-01 to -03, the carrying case C0212, eight LR6 batteries and the instruction manual. Sold separately are 10 m lead sets (L9850-11 to -13) and the Z3210 adapter. The sibling IR5051 adds PV insulation resistance measurement up to 2 kV for solar strings that are still generating and a voltage range up to 2000 V DC; the IR5050 is the plain 5 kV model.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the highest test voltage in your procedure (5 kV is the limit of this model), the lead length you need for the object under test, and whether wireless transfer to GENNECT Cross is needed, which requires the optional Z3210. For solar work specify the IR5051 instead. The brochure covers both models, so confirm the model code on the quotation.

Documents and quotation

Ordering Hioki instruments: what we need

Send the full order code, because Hioki uses suffixes to separate versions, for example sets with wireless adapters or different leads. Name the accessories you need, such as test leads, clamps, current sensors, the Z3210 wireless adapter and carrying cases, and say if a calibration certificate is required. If the model is uncertain, describe the circuit, the voltage and the quantity to be measured.

Frequently Asked Questions
