Debem Boxer 50 Compact Air-Operated Diaphragm Pump

A compact half-inch AODD pump with ATEX-ready construction

The Boxer 50 sits in the compact end of the Debem Boxer line: a 1/2 inch air-operated diaphragm pump moving up to 60 l/min with no electric motor on the wet side. The same datasheet covers the Miniboxer, a stainless steel AISI 316 L version, and the FDA Boxer 50 with hygienic clamp connections. Typical duties are dosing-line feed, transfer from drums and IBCs, filter and tank filling, and circulation of inks, paints, resins, acids and solvents where a small footprint matters.

Choosing the material combination

Pump body options are polypropylene, conductive polypropylene, PVDF, aluminium and, for the Miniboxer, AISI 316 L. Diaphragms, balls and O-rings are then chosen separately, for example PTFE or EPDM diaphragms and PTFE or stainless balls, which is how one 1/2 inch pump can handle both a dilute acid and a solvent-based ink. The code on the nameplate records these choices, and the Boxer manual explains each letter, so the order should always quote the full code and not only the model name.

At 1/2 inch the pump is sensitive to suction conditions. The manual limits negative suction to fluids up to 5000 cps and 1.4 kg/l, asks for a suction pipe at least as large as the connection, and forbids extra fittings on the inlet apart from an on-off valve. An Equaflux pulsation damper can be mounted on the discharge when a steadier flow is needed; Debem lists the Equaflux 100 for the Boxer 50.

ATEX marking and air supply

Hazardous areas: the standard Boxer 50 is marked II 3G Ex h IIB T4 Gc with II 3D Ex h IIIB T135°C Dc X, which covers Zone 2 and Zone 22. A CONDUCT build with carbon-filled body is available at order for Zone 1 and Zone 21, and the sheet also lists IECEx Ex h IIB T4 Gb. Earth the pump, and let the plant classify the zone.

Supply clean, dried, non-lubricated air at 2 to 8 bar. A glycol additive is suggested for strong heads or back pressure, and a soft-start valve helps at high negative heads or high viscosity.
