Greenheck GJX-41-160-0623 GreenJet Car Park Jet Fan

Description

A ceiling-hung jet fan that replaces car park ductwork

The Greenheck GJX-41-160-0623 is the largest of three GreenJet GJX axial transfer fans (sizes 31, 36 and 41). Instead of a duct network, GJX fans hang from the ceiling of an enclosed car park, push fresh air along the structure toward the exhaust fans and avoid stagnant zones where carbon monoxide and other fumes could collect. In a fire the same fans, with smoke control certification, are intended to clear a path for emergency responders.

This order code is size 41 with a 160 hub, 6 blades and a 23 degree pitch, running at 3500 rpm with a 3 hp (2.2 kW) motor. It is the highest-thrust option in the catalogue table, with 6,010 cfm and a 200 fpm throw of 115 ft.

Features printed in the datasheet

  • Low-profile steel casing with Permatector coating; mounting brackets flush with the top of the silencers, so no extra ceiling height is used.
  • Airfoil propellers that move large volumes of air at high efficiency in a small diameter.
  • Sound-absorbing inlet and outlet silencers with a perforated inner liner for maximum noise reduction, plus inlet and outlet guards.
  • Aerodynamic inlet design; junction box mounted on the casing.
  • Models available with UL/cUL 705 electrical listing (X) and the HTUL high-temperature listing for emergency smoke control.

Selection and ordering

The model code runs GJX, size in cm (31, 36 or 41), series, hub size, blade count and pitch, a motor letter for 3500 rpm and a horsepower code (7 = 3/4, 10 = 1, 15 = 1-1/2, 20 = 2, 30 = 3), then X for UL 705 or HTUL for the smoke control listing. Fan placement is the key design step: use the discharge velocity profiles (available for AutoCAD) as a starting point, then check with a CFD study. The catalogue distinguishes velocity, CO and smoke removal analyses and notes that natural airflow paths through the building exist, so the jet fans must work with them.

System design and energy use

The catalogue shows a demand-based scheme in which sensors read contaminant ppm and a controller changes fan speed; one VFD can serve several GJX fans in a zone. In its simplified example, demand-based control cut the daily operating volume from 540 to 180 ft3 per ft2 of garage floor, a 66 percent reduction, using 0.75 cfm per ft2 at full flow and 0.15 at reduced flow. Treat that as the manufacturer’s illustration, not a guarantee for a particular garage.

Information to send with an RFQ for the Greenheck GJX-41-160-0623 GreenJet Car Park Jet Fan

Fans are selected on the duty point, not on the model name. For the Greenheck GJX-41-160-0623 GreenJet Car Park Jet Fan, give the required airflow, the static pressure the fan must overcome, the air temperature and density, and whether the fan supplies or exhausts air. Mention the motor supply voltage, phase and frequency; 415 V / 3 ph / 50 Hz is common on GCC sites.

  • Installation position and the roof curb, wall opening or duct connection available.
  • Accessories: dampers, guards, speed control or variable frequency drive, and vibration isolation.
  • Sound limits for nearby offices or residential areas.
  • Ambient conditions: high temperature, dust, sand or corrosive air near the coast.

With a duty point and these details, the fan size, wheel and motor can be confirmed from the manufacturer’s selection data before a quotation is issued.

Car park schemes also use supply and exhaust fans, and life-safety fire, smoke and combination dampers tested to UL 555 and 555S. For other fans see our HVAC and combustion category.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the thrust and throw required from the layout study, the number of fans per zone, whether the smoke control certification and its temperature class (150 C for 5 hours or 260 C for 4 hours) are needed, and the supply voltage for the 3 hp motor.
