Ubiquiti USW-Pro-48-PoE 48-Port PoE++ Managed Switch, 600 W

Description

The Ubiquiti USW-Pro-48-PoE is a 1U rack-mount managed switch with 48 Gigabit RJ45 ports (40 PoE/PoE+ and 8 PoE++), four 1/10G SFP+ uplinks, a 600 W PoE budget and an internal 660 W supply. A 1.3 inch touchscreen on the front shows switch status.

The tech specs page calls it a 48-port Layer 3 switch capable of high-power PoE++ output; the datasheet quotes 88 Gbps non-blocking throughput and 176 Gbps switching capacity.

Core access switch for large PoE deployments

This is the access-layer workhorse for a building floor: one unit can power dozens of access points, IP phones, cameras and displays, and its eight PoE++ ports (up to 60 W each by the datasheet figure of 64 W maximum at the source side) serve heavier loads such as PTZ cameras. The four SFP+ ports carry fibre or direct-attach uplinks to an aggregation switch, and an optional UniFi RPS input offers DC backup power. The shock and vibration rating references ETSI 300-019-1.4, which is relevant to installation in shared telecom rooms.

Planning the 600 W budget

The 600 W PoE budget is lower than the sum of all ports at maximum class. As a derived example, eight PoE++ cameras at 30 W use 240 W and 30 access points at 13 W use 390 W, which already exceeds the budget. Add up real draws, and use the LCM and the UniFi Network power view during commissioning.

Uplink note (derived): the four SFP+ ports run at 1G or 10G according to the tech specs. In the worst case 48 Gigabit ports can offer 48 Gbps toward the uplink, so two 10G uplinks (20 Gbps) give about 2.4 to 1 oversubscription. Many access networks accept this; video-heavy floors may need more uplinks.

Installation notes

Fit the rack brackets, allow airflow front to rear, connect mains and, if needed, a UniFi RPS for DC backup. Adopt in UniFi Network. The unit is 1U and about 400 mm deep, so confirm cabinet depth with the cable bend radius. The operating limit is 40 C, so the room must be cooled.

GCC applications

Typical uses are hotel floors, hospitals, universities, office towers and warehouses across the GCC, where one cabinet feeds many Wi-Fi, CCTV and VoIP endpoints.

Selection and installation notes

A network switch is chosen from the port count and speed, the PoE budget, the uplink type and the management features. Add up the power of every PoE device before choosing the unit, keep a margin on the budget, plan airflow and the mounting position, use the right transceivers and cable category for the uplinks and keep a copy of the configuration after commissioning.

Before ordering, compare the ratings on the data sheet with the project specification, check the connection sizes and the supply conditions, and confirm which accessories, spares and documents travel with the unit. On delivery, inspect the packing, compare the nameplate with the order and keep the manual with the site records so that later commissioning and maintenance work can follow the maker instructions. Ask us if any detail is unclear and we will check it with the supplier before the order is placed.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
