Ubiquiti U6-Enterprise UniFi 6E Tri-Band Wi-Fi Access Point

Description

The Ubiquiti U6-Enterprise is a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E access point: 2.4 GHz 2×2, 5 GHz 4×4 and 6 GHz 4×4 radios with 4.8 Gbps on each of the two higher bands, a 2.5 GbE RJ45 uplink, PoE+ input and a 22 W maximum draw. UniFi lists 10 spatial streams, 140 square metres of coverage and 600+ clients.

It is the UniFi 6 access point for high client density: auditoriums, open-plan offices, hospital wings and conference venues.

Why 6 GHz changes high-density Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi 6E opens the 6 GHz band to compatible client devices, which keeps them away from congested 2.4 and 5 GHz channels. The U6-Enterprise carries three radios, so a single unit can serve legacy 2.4 GHz clients, mainstream 5 GHz clients and new 6 GHz clients at once. Its 2.5 GbE port gives backhaul headroom beyond 1 Gbps when many clients are active, and the aluminium bottom housing helps with heat. The datasheet shows 22 W maximum consumption, so a PoE+ (802.3at) switch port is the practical minimum. Regional 6 GHz availability depends on national regulation; confirm for the country of use.

Planning notes: PoE, switching and client mix

Do not assume all clients will use 6 GHz: only Wi-Fi 6E devices can. Before buying, check how many of your laptops and phones are 6E capable. For the 2.5 GbE uplink use a multi-gig PoE+ switch port if you want the full uplink speed; on a 1 GbE port the AP still works but backhaul is limited to 1 Gbps. The 600+ client figure is a datasheet capability, not a design target; a typical design limit is well below that.

The 4.8 Gbps figures for 5 and 6 GHz are 802.11ax PHY-rate ceilings from the datasheet, not the speed one client will see. Actual speed depends on client radios, channel width, interference and the 2.5 GbE backhaul.

Mounting and installation

Fix the supplied bracket to a ceiling or wall, click the AP onto it, and connect a PoE+ cable. Keep clear of metal obstructions. Adopt in UniFi Network, assign the SSID and VLAN, then run a spectrum survey, because 6 GHz range is shorter than 5 GHz through walls.

GCC applications

Typical uses are hotel ballrooms, government and corporate meeting halls, universities, malls and hospital wards in Oman and the GCC where many users connect at once.

PoE budget (derived): at 22 W maximum, ten units need 220 W and a PoE+ port must supply the full class 4 power, which the 45 W budget of a small switch cannot do for more than two units.

Selection and installation notes

Plan a wireless network from a site survey, not from the data sheet range alone. Walls, floors and metal structures reduce coverage, so place access points at the centre of the area they serve, away from obstacles, and set the channels and power so that neighbouring units do not interfere. Confirm the PoE standard and the switch budget, the number of clients and the management platform, and change the default passwords at commissioning.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
