Donaldson DCE 125 B Bin Vent Dust Filter 2.5 m2
Description
A compact stainless steel bin vent dust filter, 2.5 m2, 200 to 400 m3/h venting
The Donaldson DCE 125 B is the 2.5 m2 venting model of the DCE 100 series, a compact dust filter for venting small volumes of dust-laden air on bins, hoppers and vessels in conveying and material handling systems. Donaldson describes it as a much better alternative to a sock filter that helps ensure compliance with health and safety and COSHH rules.
The housing is 304L stainless steel with a rugged ABS hinged top, which makes cartridge removal easy. The range has two sizes, 2.5 m2 and 3.6 m2, in a standard venting version (B) and a fan-assisted version (F), so there are four models: DCE 125 B, DCE 136 B, DCE 125 F and DCE 136 F.
This page summarises the manufacturer sheet for quick reference. Compare the figures with your drawing, the existing nameplate and the operating conditions of the installation, and tell us anything that differs so the correct variant can be confirmed in writing before any order is placed.

Design and options
The DCE 100 has a small circular footprint and low overall height for sites with limited clearance. The manifold, diaphragm valve and timer are accessible for maintenance, and the unit is supplied complete and ready to fit. All filters have anti-static features so they can be used for all dust types, including explosive dusts, and an ATEX compliance option is listed.
A rotationally moulded food-grade polyethylene liner is available for the DCE 125 and DCE 136 models. It is crack and crevice free and aimed at food, chemical and pharmaceutical users. The leaflet dates from 2011, so confirm the current version, ATEX category and cartridge part numbers with the manufacturer before ordering.
The venting unit handles 200 to 400 m3/h, which suits small bins, hoppers and vessels, and the fan-assisted models are rated up to 225 m3/h at 50 mmWG for installations where displaced air cannot vent by itself. The cartridge is spun-bonded polyester media, a proven design for venting applications worldwide, and the manifold, diaphragm valve and timer are readily accessible for maintenance. The sheet also names the DCE Spotair, DCE Siloair and Dalamatic insertable filters as larger venting options in the same family.
Sizing checks before selecting the venting model
A bin vent filter has to release the air displaced when material enters a bin or hopper, plus any conveying air that arrives with it. Before choosing the DCE 125 B, estimate the maximum air flow at the vent point during filling, including pneumatic conveying air if the vessel is filled that way, and compare it with the venting air volume in the specification table. If the displaced air cannot leave the vessel on its own, a fan-assisted model is the type to consider instead.
Collect information about the dust as well: particle size, whether it is sticky or hygroscopic, its temperature and whether it is combustible. These properties affect cleaning performance and cartridge life, and combustible dusts also bring the ATEX question into the selection. Sharing this data with Donaldson or with us at enquiry stage helps confirm that the venting model is suitable.
Compressed air supply
The pulse cleaning system needs a clean, dry compressed air supply. Check the pressure and air quality required in the installation instructions, and provide a filter and water separator in the supply line. Wet or oily air can blind the cartridge and cause dust to stick to the media, which reduces filter performance quickly.
Installation on the bin or hopper
The unit is supplied ready to fit, so installation is mainly a matter of preparing a suitable mounting point on the vessel roof. Make sure the roof can carry the filter and that the opening matches the filter outlet. Leave space above the unit for the hinged top to open fully, because cartridge changes are done from above. Connect the timer to a reliable power supply and arrange the cleaning sequence to run while the vessel is being filled.
For ATEX applications, earthing and bonding of the housing and cartridge must follow the documentation for the version supplied, and the installation should be included in the site’s explosion protection document.
Maintenance and operation in Omani plants
Cement, flour, plastics and chemical plants in Oman often handle fine, dry powders in hot conditions. Check the cartridge regularly for damage, blinding or dust leakage on the clean side, and replace it when cleaning no longer restores normal performance. Inspect the diaphragm valve and timer during planned shutdowns, and drain moisture from the compressed air system routinely, especially in humid coastal areas where condensation is common.
Keep a spare cartridge on site so that a damaged one can be changed without waiting, and record each replacement in the maintenance log. Visible dust from the vent outlet is a clear sign that the cartridge seal or media needs immediate attention. Prompt action protects workers and the environment around the vessel.
