The PMA20240 is a current monitoring relay of the Lovato Electric PMA20 family for single-phase circuits. Its function is described as: ac/dc maximum current monitoring relay. Selecting the relay

Use it where a motor current or heater current must be supervised without a full protection relay: pump dry-run detection through a drop in current, blocked conveyors through rising current, or heater burn-out through zero current.

Select the 5 A or 16 A range through the terminals as the datasheet describes, and use an external current transformer for larger loads.

Lovato order codes describe the product. On a contactor such as BF0910A230, "BF09" is the frame and rated current (9 A in AC-3), "10" is the built-in auxiliary contact (one normally open), "A" means an AC coil and "230" is the coil voltage. The coil voltage must match the control circuit exactly, so it is the most common detail to check when replacing one. For motors, a soft starter limits the inrush current at start and stop, while a variable speed drive controls the speed continuously and saves energy on pumps and fans that do not need full flow all the time.
